Last night I went into the Portuguese lesson a little late. My Portuguese teacher looked at me and said something in Portuguese. I was upset, and said "Buenas noches" before I could stop myself. Oh gosh... it was Spanish, not Portuguese... It was too late to notice. He asked with surprise "?Habla espanol?"... "...un poco" I wanted to insist in Spanish that I knew some Spanish phrases, but I couldn't talk in Spanish. But of course, my Spanish didn't reach that level. My teacher must have misunderstood completely.
When one of my Brazilian friends tried to teach me Portuguese, she always complained I mixed Spanish with Portuguese. It's inevitable, if you were me. I'm always surrounded by Portuguese speakers and Spanish ones. I’ve been learning most phrases and words from their conversation.
I studied how to count from one to ten in the class yesterday. See, it was way tough to focus on counting in only Portuguese. I wish I had two brains to keep Spanish and Portuguese words separately.
