以前可不可以さんのブログや、きたむー、SHINさん、りーがおさんのブログなどで紹介されていた、自分の中国なじみ度を測る「人民度チェック」ですが、英語版があることを知りました。

アメリカ人の同僚から教えてもらったんですが、中国生活が長い英語圏の人々の間では結構広まっているそうです。内容は「人民度チェック」と似ている部分もありますが、「箸を使うのが好きになった」など欧米人独特のチェック項目もありました。

いくつか紹介しますね。

Before asking someone's age, you ask what animal they are.

You start calling other foreigners Lao Wai.

You prefer using chopsticks.

You can pick up any type of food using just your chopsticks... even peanuts.

You start to watch CCTV9 and feel warm and comforted by the governments great work.

You have absolutely no sense of traffic rules.

You talk louder than is necessary.

DVDs become your definition of home entertainment.

You think singing Karaoke on Friday nights is fun.

You no longer need tissues to blow your nose.

You consider McDonald's a treat.

You start picking at other people's dinner plates before they even offer you a taste.

You eat family style at any and all restaurants, Chinese or not.

You no longer notice the hooting on the streets.

You start getting your luggage from the overhead compartment while the airplane is still taxiing

You start squatting in public places when your legs get tired.

You think a good idea for a snack is dried anything.

You start to enjoy the taste of baijiu.

Looking at a dog makes you hungry.

You have to pause and translate your phone number into English before telling it to someone.

You buy the local newspaper because you forget that you can't read Chinese.

Chinese stop you on the street to ask for directions.

You get homesick for Chinese food when away from China.

You have a purse and you are male.

You like the smell of the bus.


You think squat toilets are more sensible.

英語版もなかなか笑えますね。
