I'm a mother of two teen age girls, and working full time. I've been learning English since 1999. Because it's fun! I'm enjoying an English adventure and made friends with people from various countries. My strongest weapon is the attitude not to be afraid of making mistakes. However, I think that it's about time I polish my English, so I'd like to build a strong base, including the improvement of my poor pronunciation. Would you advise me on what I should do? If you are interested in my English adventure, why don't you visit my main site? ![]() Now, I join an on-line workshop to improve my overall English-language communication skills. I believe that it's also useful to you. Check it out!
At the end of June in 2006, I was interviewed by an editor of the magazine “English Journal.” It was placed in the September issue! Thanks to all of you, my dearest readers, I have been able to keep uploading my blog. Taking this opportunity, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to you. Writing in English is a lot of fun for me because I discover my new personality when I express myself in my new language! I believe my English ability has improved little by little through keeping writing in English. [全418件]

After Christmas, many shops in the city where I stayed launched sales. My husband said to me, "I will buy whatever you want." It made me happy, but I didn't think of anything. Fortunately for me, I noticed the biggest bookshop in this city sold all books at a 20% discount until tomorrow. So, I asked my husband to buy some CDs or cassettes and books for me. A set of cassettes titled "Read by Roald Dahl" was the first thing I chose. I'm really looking forward to listening to him reading his stories in his own voice.
After I enjoyed a play about Akiko Yosano and Tekkan Yosano in July of last year, I came to want to read some books about Akiko. I hadn't known she had as many as twelve children; she wrote and wrote while raising her children in order to support the family. I hadn't known Tekkan had visited Europe and Akiko had followed him; as it was the time just before I would come to my husband's place for the first time, I said to my husband, "I will follow you like Akiko!" Of course, it brought laughter to my husband as usual… Thanks to this book, I came across many of her tanka I hadn't known. I came to love the tanka 「三十路をば 越していよいよ みづからの 愛ずべきを知り 黒髪を梳く」at once. I would like to read 「源氏物語」translated by Akiko this year.
At the end of last year, one of my little dreams came true; I finally went to a movie abroad! I am not a fan of Bond movies, but I had chosen this movie because of two reasons; first, as far as I had known, it was well-received; second, I had thought it was one of the easiest movies to follow the plot without subtitles... This movie was much more exciting and beautiful than my husband and I had expected; we really enjoyed it.
I also bought the DVD "Matilda." I love the books by Roald Dahl, especially "Matilda"! I'm really looking forward to watching it.
I finally got this picture book at the end of last December. I came across it at a workshop for English teachers for children last summer. The moment I opened this picture book, I fell in love with it. However, I forgot to write down neither the title nor the author's name. I didn't have any clues to find it. Fortunately for me, I happened to find it at a bookshop. After coming back to my husband’s place, I enjoyed reading it aloud again and again while appreciating the lovely illustrations. I would like to share the pleasure with many children.
Hi! My dearest readers! I have uploaded 20 entries on another my blog. If you have time, please visit there!
Now, I have been staying at my husband’s place, again. I brought four books with me; they are“Secret of the Code” (Yes, I haven’t finished it yet…), “Agatha Christie’s Best Stories”(It had been on my bookshelf for more than five years…) “The Speaker’s Manual” and 「千すじの黒髪 ―わが愛の與謝野晶子―」. Coincidentally, I read“Christmas Tragedy”in the second book on Christmas Eve and Christmas! I attended Christmas Eve service at a nearby cathedral and Christmas mass at another one. I chose them only because they were close to my husband’s place. However, as the first is a Protestant cathedral and the second, a Catholic one, I realized the difference between them a little bit from my own experiences. Although I am not a Christian, at the end of the service and the mass, I prayed for peace with the other attendants.
Every time I read this picture book, I feel happy and smile. All the children who listened to my storytelling came to love this book, too!
When I reviewed 「英文解釈考」 yesterday, I came across an impressive quote: Our understanding of each other had reached that sweet depth where two people communicate more in silence than in words. (Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s) It made me want to read the book. Actually, it was the second English language book I bought for myself. I thought I would be able to read it because it was thin, but I was wrong. Sad to say, even though there were Japanese interlinings, the texts were beyond my understanding… It has been more than six years since then; it might be high time for me to retry it. Incidentally, the first English language book I bought for myself was “Flowers for Algernon.” Actually, a girl in sixth grade had recommended I should read it. She had also read the book “The Minds of Billy Milligan”; she said as she had been deeply moved by the book, she had come to want to be a psychiatrist. Anyway, not only the story but also the fact I was able to read through such an English language book impressed me a lot. Needless to say, without the interlinings, I couldn’t understand the texts at that time. |一覧| |
