 屋台↑（2012年5月22日、バンコク、タイ） 2012年5月22日からバンコクへ行き26日に日本に戻って来ました。 タイへは何回も行っているのですが、今回は、久しぶりで、なんと、2010年9月にアユタヤへ行って以後初めてのタイ訪問となりました。 空港の案内所で、タクシー乗り場を確認します。 確認しなくてもいいのですが、乗り場が変更になっていると移動が大変なので念のため聞いてみます。 係りの女性が、「どこまで行くの？」と聞くのでバンコクのカオサンの近くにある通りの名前を告げます。 「料金1,000バーツ」と言うので、すぐに「そんな高いタクシーは乗らない。タクシー乗り場は１階でいいの？」と聞き返しました。 「快適な車で、早く着くよ」と言ってくるので、「タクシー乗り場は１階？」と再度言うと諦めたようでうなずく。 いつもは現地人のように扱われていたのですが、今回は久しぶりのタイ訪問で、完全に旅行者と思われたようです。 実は今回の訪問では、もう一回、タクシーの運転手に旅行者扱いされたことがありました。 後日、披露します。 【Bon appétit !】 静止大道芸人 Living statues are mimes who stand perfectly still for hours on end, pretending to be statues. They are sometimes painted with a metallic sheen（光沢）or another color so that they appear to have been cast（鋳造する、作る）from metal or carved from stone. Often, they are so still that bystanders believe they are actual statues and - as has been shown on many a hidden-camera television show - create quite a commotion（動揺、騒動）among startled onlookers if they disrupt the illusion by moving.
 凱旋門↑（2009年5月7日、ビエンチャン） 初めてラオス訪問した時に気付いたことが２つある。 一つは、車のクラクションだ。東南アジアというと、車のクラクションと多くの人が織りなす喧騒が思い浮かぶ。でも、ここラオスは、全く静かだ。 二つ目は、物乞いの数だ。ほとんど見かけない。見かけたとしても執拗な物乞いはいない。 どうしてこのようなことになっているのか、ラオスで生活していくうちにわかってきた。 （続く） 【Bon appétit !】 日本の支援で、サミット準備 The Japanese government has financed the construction of a VIP arrival lounge at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane with US$3 million, to receive leaders attending the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in November. Deputy Director General of the Civil Aviation Department, Mr Vanpheng Chanthaphone, said on Thursday the special facilities were designed to enable heads of state and government to enter the terminal unimpeded by the presence of other passengers. Work on the single-storey building began last November on an area of almost 3,000 square metres. The whole project is now 45 percent complete and should be finished in September. 私は、ヴィエンチャンの空港に降り立つと、何とも言えない懐かしい気持ちになる。まるで、故郷に戻ってきたような感じだ。自分を包み込むラオスの空気が、肌に心地よい。 これは自分だけの感覚だろうか。 ラオスに来られた日本人にラオスの感想を聞く機会が幾度となくあった。彼らの感想は共通している。 「癒されました。」 「懐かしい感じを受けました。」 「日本が失った大切なものをみつけました。」 理由は、ラオス人がなんとなく日本人に似ているといことが一つ。確かに、行動様式が似ている。はにかみ屋で争いを嫌う。もう一つは、田園風景や人と人とのつながりに、一昔前の日本社会を感じるからだろう。 ラオスを終の棲家としている日本人も多い。 初めてラオスを訪問した時に気付いたことが２つある。（続く） 【Bon appétit !】 “Baw pen nyang” - or “no problem” - could easily be the national motto here in Laos. Nothing seems to faze（困る、恐れる）the Lao people, and they can make Thais and Cambodians (themselves very calm and peaceful) look almost hyper. As the Lonely Planet Guide to Laos states, the Lao people commonly express the notion that “too much work is bad for your brain;” it is a cultural norm to avoid any and all stress. One grant of over US$11.2 million will be used for the clearance of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in areas near main roads. The second is US$3 million for scholarships for government officials under the JDS scheme. “The promise of these two grants was made by the Japanese prime minister to Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong when he visited Japan in March this year,” Japanese Ambassador to Laos Ms Junko Yokota said at the signing ceremony. （24 May 2012）

「幸せ」は、このブログ「Gkenの『一人ひとりがVIP』」のテーマです。 青い鳥がどこにも見つからず失意のうちに家に戻ってきたら、青い鳥は家にいた、という話は、幸せを考える上で示唆に富んでいます。 幸せは身近な所にあるという例えに用いる人もいますし、幸せは心の持ち方の問題であると解釈をする人もいます。 マザーテレサは、「幸せを求めに行く必要はない」と言い切っています。 その心は、Lucinda Vardey編著の「A Simple Path, Mother Teresa」の中にありました。 それは、「他人を愛すれば、わざわざ幸せを求めなくても幸せになれる」からだそうです。 We don’t need to look for happiness: if we have love for others we’ll be given it. 「幸せを探し求める必要はありません。他人を愛すれば愛は与えられます。」とでも訳せばよいでしょうか。 皆さんはどう思われますか？ 【Bon appétit !】 マルコム X は1925年5月19日生まれ Malcolm X was an African-American activist. A recent study found that people with different weekday and weekend sleep schedules were significantly more likely to be overweight. There was also a correlation between the magnitude of sleep schedule discrepancy and body mass index. Sleep researchers are calling the discrepancy between the demands of one's social schedule and the desires of the body's internal clock "social jet lag" and compare the effects of irregular weekend sleep patterns to flying from Paris to New York on Friday nights only to make the return trip on Monday mornings. レインブーツです。↓
