Singing in the classroom!!★★
Children learn English using various types of methods. One of my favorite methods is by teaching English through music. Children of all ages are able to learn by singing various types of songs depending on their English ability. Most recently elementary school students are learning English through song. Songs like, “Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” seem to be very popular. However, as children get older they find these types of songs to be very child like and may refuse to sing along. Older students may also find it difficult to sing along to such songs. For this I recommend songs of greater difficulty, like songs from artists such as The Beatles, The Carpenters and ABBA. These artists have both fast paced and slow paced songs sung in relatively easy English overall. All of the lyrics can be found on the Internet thus you can make a copy of these for your students and you can also use cloze exercises to teach these topics. Here is a list of songs you can use with your students:ELEMENTARY SCHOOL JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL HIGH SCHOOL & ABOVE It is best to include gestures when teaching these songs and to try to make sure that your students understand the lyrics and not just sing the song for no reason. So, what is your favorite English song? Happy Singing!
