My home town Attock

Attock half way between Islamabad and Peshawar is located on the confluence
of two great rivers of Pakistan.Here muddy water of Kabul river meet clear waters
of the Indus, both waters keeping their distict identity for miles.
In 1582 the Mughal emperor Akbar built an imposing fort (Attock Fort) on the east
bank of the Indus to control areas on the west bank as far as the Kyber Pass
80 miles to the west and Afghanistan beyand.
In the later part of the 19th century the British tried to dig a tunnel under the Indus
for rail traffic.Its failure led to the construction of the steel span down stream from
the Attock fort that carried rail and vehicular traffic for a century and is still in used
for trains.
The four hundred years old fort is still beautifull and imposing and stands guard on
this main thorough fare to Asia minor and Europe.
Please note: visitors are not allowed in side the fort.
