music
right first things first, here's the photes I shoulda put up yesterday from the day before...so yeah tokyo was pretty amazing like I said, and Osaka last night too....sorry I just always use words like "amazing" but maybe its cos of what I'm talking a bit more about below...words have their limitatiions....beauty, happiness, colours - can' t be described, have to be experienced...but its worth trying sometimes, words beautiful failures....describe red etc....oh, I broke a string in Osaka....it was OK, happened at sound check!today Nagasaki....no such thing as war crime, war is a crime....there is some horrible stuff on ogrish.com, what chechens do to russian soldiers...what are we made of, hunters cruel killers...annyway, enough of that, today's subject, music....I was thinking of what Thomas said, music kept me sane...but first just a little bit on that epic flight to seligman, impressions in reverse order:-1. Yeah I remember the waitress wiith her beehive being so unimpressed...I felt stupid brandishing my passport...what I was expecting? freedom of the.....well, I can't exactly call it a town...annyway, no deal!2. Before that, walking into town from the airpport, the biggest car grave I've ever seen...stacked 10 high on top of each other in a scrapyard just by the airport, but not as rusty as scrapped cars I was used to....3. before that, losing our way...I discovered that you could navigate forwards by lining up things behind you, in this case a couple of mountains....I've never forgotten that - what guides you might lie behind you, and in a way that little plane being shown the way forwards by two mountains 5 and 10 miles behind it is a nice analogy for parenthood...we got there in the end, but I think Thomas preferred the map method...!!!4. before that, taking off from the wrong airport, a funny concept in itself, but I hadn't shut my door properly and we were about 200 ft in the air and Thomas was leaning over shutting my door whilst continuing to take off with the other hand....not bad for a noob pilot!5. Before that landing at some country club type airpport and having a coffee then taking off again...seemed very indulgent and lovely...planes in the US are like that, just flying cars really....6. Before that, finally but there was lots else, taking off from near LA and breaking through the clouds and seeing somewhere over there a jet liner pass us by not so far away...7. Now at some point in this oddessey I also found myself looking over a row of about 20 black hawk helicopters as one of the airports we landed at was dual use military civil so that shows whatr security was like in those days...the most evil think aboout the way they looked was the way their rotor blades dropped when they were at rest....Amazing trip/day...thanks Thomas....And then there was Music....dont even talk about it, some things just get smaller when you try and fit them into words...anyway if I could explain what it meant to me it would be like explaining the meaning of life....but I'll try!....that is what everyone feels anyway and I'm sure that's partly why we feel it....this universal wordless almost un(or sub?) conscious thing we can share from our separate bodies...its a bit magic, a bit mystery, it goes so deep, mingling melodies and memories, and an incredible feeling that everything is OK....when its done right, its godllike, it really is - this year I have though that about the Beatles (John AND Paul!), Curt Cobain and Nirvana, 2pac, Bob Marley .....and it has partly destroyed and partly saved my life...I'm sure it's why I couldnt keep away, just stay in the city job, because just to have dipped your toes in this beautiful lake is something never forgotten, always felt, and it can never be - or at least never feel - right to leave it behind....and we ALSO got a job to do here, this miracle music machine thing....it saves the world...in a let me save you so I can save myself kind of way....right now, feeling so good about everything, Snail on tour, everything feeling so right...anecdote...mimiko came to the gig in osaka last night, had another run-in with crazy fan...I love how tours get like soap operas...you start with aband, you end up with a cast of thousands!Last gig in Nippon tonight then on to CHINA! Hoping t-shirts are gonna be ready before the end of the tour....this is all so last minute....anyway, whenever they is ready, they'll be stuff you can buy through the site hopefully....M xxx
