経済成長とその失敗については誰でも知っています。どこの国でも経済良いときと悪いときを経験しています。経済成長は新しい現象でもなければ、高成長率が中国特有というわけでもありません。

ソ連崩壊をまのあたりにして80年代に中国は、我々の手法に屈するという形で、独自の経済運営方法を捨て去らざるを得なくなり、欧米や日本のライフスタイルに似た生活習慣に適応しようとしだしました。したがってそこから我々が学ばなければならないことはほとんどありません。中国は今後さらに、政治においても経済分野においても我々の手法に適応しようとするでしょう。その逆はありえません。中国通貨、元の扱いや人権問題も要求されている通りに対処されるでしょう。

ですから中国から何を学べばよいのかが疑問となるわけです。中国は世界的指導国として特別な尊敬に値するのでしょうか？

確かに中国には最高の朝鮮人参があるかもしれませんが、それについて学ぶことは何もありません。それと中国が１３億の国民の統治に成功しているという話については、多くの人がそうは思っていないでしょうし、私もうまく行っているとは見ていません。

中国には商売、仕事、勉学、生活などの機会を求めて外国人たちが押し寄せて来ている。中国には他の国にはない色々な特徴がある。例えば、ライフスタイル、食文化、溢れんばかりの人材、５千年の歴史など、それらどれも他国にはないもので我々の豊かさとなっている。

なぜ中国が世界のリーダーになる資質に欠けていると思うのですか？あなたは悲観論者なのです。

確かに、中国から学ぶべき点はあります。全ての中国人を知っているなどと言うつもりはありませんが、ここアメリカにいる中国人は「今日はそこそこ、明日はもっと良くなるだろう。そして明後日はもっと良くなるだろう。」というような、活力に満ちた楽観主義を持ち込んできました。アメリカ人も昔はそんな風でしたが、今では中国人に特有の性格になってしまったようです。インド人を除けば、他国の人々からは前向きな活気を感じる取ることができません。誰もが現状維持にしか関心がないようです。

Maybe you are missing the point.

We know how economy grows and fails. Many countries in the world have experienced the ups and downs of economy. Economic growth is not a new phenomenon, nor is high rate of growth unique to China either.

Seeing the demise of Soviet Union, China was simply forced to give up her own way of dealing with economy in the 80s, giving in to our way, and began adjusting to the lifestyle similar to those in the West or Japan. So there is nothing much to learn from it. China will make further adjustment to our way of doing things in both economics and politics, not the other way around. China will handle the exchange rate of the Yuan as demanded. Human rights condition in China will get better as demanded.

The question is what we are supposed to learn from China. Does China deserve an extra respect as a world-class leader?

China may indeed have the best ginseng in the world, but there is nothing to learn in it. And I'm not so sure about and many people probably don't agree with your assertion that China has been successfully managing 1.3 billion people.

Now more and more foreigners are coming to China for better commerce chance,working chance,study and life,etc.China has its characteristic which is distinct with other countries.For example,life style ,food culture, abundant labor resource and 5,000 years historic culture,all of which are more different with else places and are our wealth.
Why do you think China is lack of capability to be a leader of the world.I think you are too pessimist.

Yes, there is something that we can learn from China. I don’t claim to know every Chinese, but the Chinese nationals here in the U.S. brought with them a sense of dynamic optimism: “things are good today, but it will be better tomorrow, and it’ll be better still the day after tomorrow.” Americans used to be like that. The Chinese of today remind me of the mythical American explorers of the past that populate only the history books nowadays. This seems to be a fairly unique trait for the Chinese today. With the exception of Indians, I’ve yet to notice this general sense of proactive vibrancy from people of any other nationalities - everyone else seems to be only interested in maintaining the status quo.
