For a long time, even when women marry abusive husbands, they had put up with tyrannical control,

Traditional patriarchy, confusing manly behavior with violence, gender division of work have churn out abusive men, and those fathers raise abusive sons and daughters who resign themselves to control by such men.
But now younger generation, especially women must be seeing the reality well.
Some become very careful about marriage, some may decide living independently is much happier.

To simplify, it tends to be older-generation MEN who lament how current youth don't marry and have children.

Some of them respect his wife, but some must treat his wife as subordinate servants, assuming that the wives cannot say no to master who feed her.
