最近の夏のはどうなのかわからないけれど、
夏になると、テュルリー公園に移動遊園地がやってきて、そこに観覧車が出現した。
高い所好きの私はそれに乗らずにいられなかった。　

ハッセルブラッドのファインダー越しの世界は基本的に、正方形の世界である。
英語では２1/4 (Two and quater)と呼び、
日本では簡単に「６X６」（ロク、ロク）と呼ぶ。
私はそのSquare Formatがことのほか好きでたまらない。

パリにこのエッフェル塔ができた時の評判は最低だったと聞いた。

でも、私はとても美しいと思う。
もしも、このエッフェル塔が建っていなかったら、
私は方向が判らなくて迷子になったことが、きっとあったに違いない。

基本的に、私の写真のほとんどはフルフレームで仕上げる。　　
フルフレームとは、　　
撮影したネガそのままに、画面を一切カットせずにプリントすることをいう。　　
なぜそうなのかと言うと、ファインダーを覗いた時にアングルから構図まで、　　
全てを一瞬で捕らえるのが好きだからだ。　　
ファインダーの端から端までを「きちんと」納める。　　
『後でプリントする時にカットすればいいや』なーんて考えは、　　
私の中には『ない』。　　

私の尊敬する写真家のほとんどがやはり、フルフレームで作品を仕上げている。　　
アンリ・カルティエ・ブレッソンなど、　　
断りなく編集者が本のサイズに合わせて、端を少しカットしただけでも、　　
すごい剣幕で怒鳴ったと聞く。　　

それでも、仕事としての写真は妥協せねばならぬ時がほとんどで、　　
それらを私は「作品」とは呼ばない。

One of the characteristics of my photography style is "full frame".
A full frame picture has exactly the same composition from the negative.
I hardly crop the image.
More than 90% of my black and white pictures are printed in full frame.
It means I print corner-to-corner without cutting off anything.

I like to make the perfect composition when I take any picture.
I never think something like....
"well, just take the picture now and crop
when I print it to make a good composition".
I always try to make the perfect composition the moment
when I look into the finder.

However, I have to compromise to my photo to be cropped
when it's an assignment for the magazine or other commercial work.
So I don't call those photos "ART" anyway.
