Gr8 for a Friday/Saturday Night with Lover[s]
The movie "Sugar & Spice " tells the story of a group of cheerleaders who band together when one of their own gets in trouble.
The five girls have somewhat stereotypical personalities - there is the leader, the brain, the rebel, and the religious girl..
.. But there is also the stalker, a girl who is obsessed with Conan O'Brian.
Additionally, even though the girls have somewhat stereotypical roles, each also has her own unique personality.
The religious girl, for example, has a slight preoccupation with horses.

I have discussed the issue of sex in the movie, but as for the guns, the girls are very explicit in that they dont want to hurt anybody with the guns, they just want to scare them.
The guns are in no way glorified.
Also, on the issue on teen pregnancy, it should be noted that Diane does not need the money for an abortion , but rather to meet expenses during and after her pregnancy.
While this is definitely not the best way to meet expenses, the results are comical.
Also, Jack & Diane try to get a loan from the bank , but are rejected and offered the following caveat "Why don't you have your parents come and we'll give them the money? " to which Diane replies "We're not looking for a handout, we're looking for a hand up. "
Diane, and to a lesser extend Jack , are determined to prove that they can pay rent, etc without parental help, which is actually a moot point since they were kicked out of their houses.

Diane Got Knocked Up & Got Thrown in the Can...
After I enjoyed the cheerleader flick Bring it On so immensely, I was concerned that this satire wouldn't go over so well.
However, I was pleasantly surprised , and a little remorseful that the film hit the budget theatres so quickly...

A quintet of popular cheerleaders, the A-squad, who do everything together --including their menstrations-- band together to rob a bank to support their fellow cheerleader who is pregnant and totally broke.
The jokes are almost constant here , many of them slight little puns and plays on words that you have to pay attention to catch, those who don't pay attention will miss out on some major payoffs.
Mena Suvari is the most recognizable member of the squad..
.. and James Marsden schmucks his way through like never before, playing the do-gooder dumb jock better than most teen movie casts combined.

While original and funny, "Sugar & Spice " doesn't convince us enough that it's a satire like Drop Dead Gorgrous , does with so much ease, that some of the events seem out of place with the rest of the package.

Overall, "Sugar & Spice " is a wickedly fun flick that pokes fun at everything that is held sacred in subrubia...
I would recommend this movie wholeheartedly..
.. but for the parents of younger teens- if you are concerned about your child seeing this movie, you should find a parent who has seen it and ask their opinion of it.
Depending on your personal beliefs, this may or may not be the right movie for you.
It is fine for most high school aged children.
Unlike most teen comedies, there is no drug or alcohol use in "Sugar & Spice ".
If you let your child see American Pie, this movie is no worse.
