Gleefully Streaking Down Imbecile Road..
Stupid, but Oh so Funny.. If you enjoy lowbrow comedies done well, go see "Old School " in the theater. Don't wait for it to come out on DVD.!! It's one of the few worthwhile comedies to come out in quite a while. Heck, it's one of the few worthwhile films of any genre lately (e.g. Daredevil). The story follows three 30-something male friends who form a loose, unorthodox fraternity for the sole purpose of raising the spirits of Mitch (Luke Wilson), who recently discovered his longtime girlfriend (Juliette Lewis) has been acting out her sexual fantasies in their home with people she meets on the internet.. The trio puts out the call for pledges, and they get a complete cross-section of the city's adult male population: fringe college students, middle aged office workers, and one 83-year old man named Blue, whom Will Farrell takes under his wing...... Farrell is terrific. All his physicality works, as well as his dimwit delivery of dialogue. If you liked him in any capacity on SNL, you'll enjoy his performance here. He has a Homer Simpson vibe, in that you laugh at his bumbling, but you recognize that there's a heart of gold buried somewhere in his paunch. Vince Vaughn gets back to the fast-talking, devil's advocate role that made his career in Swingers, and of all his movies I've seen, he seems most comfortable as this type of character. Wilson is very good as the eye of the storm. Even as the straightman he manages to get a lot of laughs. His brief drunken speech at the wedding is gr8.!!! The dynamic of Wilson, Farrell and Vaughn works so well, I'd be happy to see them do another comedy together. Even the few cameo appearances were good. Sean William Scott , whom I normally don't care for, was pretty dang funny in his role as the mullet-crowned pony wrangler. Craig Kilborn basically played himself: a tall, self-absorbed jerk. Leah Remini from King of Queens did a great job with the 3-4 lines she had. Andy Dick was freakishly funny as usual. Juliette Lewis seemed almost to be making fun of her own weird facial contortions. Artie Lange and the guy from "The Daily Show " were serviceable. Jeremy Piven , however, who played the villainous Dean Pritchard, was not as good as I've seen him before. Many films today try to be serious, try to capture something specific with its' audience, try to get public behind them. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but every once in a while, it's just good to lose yourself in a comedy that's none of the above. A comedy whose only purpose is to get you to laugh really hard. 【Vince Vaughn】Old School【Luke Wilson】 The funniest, Laugh-Out-Loud Comedy in recent Years.. This movie was terrible & hilarious at the same time thanks to Will Ferrell and Jeremy Priven. Will as you know is a "Saturday Night Live" alumni whose comic timing is flawless.. The streaking scene is keep you laughing throughout the movie as well as every scene he appears in.. Poor Luke Wilson, he should only act in the movies his brother Owen writes or his ex-flame Drew Barrymore pays him to be in.. It was as if he was sleepwalking through this movie and it hurt to be in it.. He always looked so pained and confused until the very end when he stopped listening to his friends and started standing up for himself.. By that time, the movie is over, and you could care less if his character can save the fraternity..... All throughout the movie, there are many genuinely hilarious moments. From the words to the actions, you'll not be able to hold back. Whether it's Ferrell shooting himself with a tranquilizer or streaking down the street, to Vaughn attempt at being a gymnast (with a cigarette in his mouth, nonetheless ), you will laugh uncontrollably ... guaranteed. Again, this isn't a movie that'll require any deep thinking. Hell, it's not even a movie with a realistic plot. But seriously, who cares That's not the point here. The point is that it's funnier than anything you'll see anytime soon and probably funnier than anything you've seen recently. Screw being a critic, screw analyzing the plot, the performances, the cinematography, or anything else for that matter. Just go and watch it for the humor "Old School " simply delivers in that regard. It's so funny , that I'm buying it as soon as it comes out on DVD. Yes, I already want to see it again. The movie skipped around so much I kept wondering who, what and why. The movie made absolutely no sense and will make you ask questions as to why did Frank get married in the first place ? How long did they date before this marriage? Did they get marriage counseling before the walk down the aisle? How come Beanie's wife did not receive more screen time? What is the deal with their marriage? What kind of relationship did Mitch have with his girlfriend? Why did Mitch buy a small house on a college campus that would normally be rented out to college kids? If you Want a Huge Laugh, Buy the DVD お気に入りの記事を「いいね!」で応援しよう
