One of the final films with strong male characters. lots of great scenes in this movie, several in this scene. when maximus calls for the last soldier, the soldier doesn't hesitate to try and fix what went wrong.

Back in 2012, at a charity event in Toronto, I met the actor who was going to execute Maximus. At the time I didnt realize who he was (yes Im an idiot. I got to show him around an aircraft for only a few minutes and had a great time. I shook his hand goodbye and bade my pleasure at meeting him but later that evening I looked up the attendees at the event. When I realized this guy played one of my favourite roles in Gladiator I kicked myself in regret not having said anything. If you happen to be reading this I can tell you now that your several words and presence really impacted me when I first saw this film in the summer of 2000. Thank you.

This scene was the greatest cinematic experience in my life. I can still remember how everyone in the movie theater just sat there in silence with tears in their eyes. It was like you were actually sitting there in the Colosseum. Chills.
Then there was the completely forgotten sequel: Sadiator. It was so depressing there's no record of it anywhere.
I watched this today for the first time (Im 25) and I must say what an absolutely amazing experience watching this was. The story, acting, music, everything was pretty much perfect. I will never forget that end scene. So sad but so perfect.
The hoplite phalanx was better for this kind of battles.

The real author of the script was my aunt, Ángela Gutiérrez Bueno, from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I am not sure how the argument was stolen years ago and ended up being a movie in the USA. It was presented to a literary contest from the Mariano Moreno High School in Buenos Aires. I remember the argument being exactly the same, so it was copied. After all these years I am still trying to figure out how this happened.

He pushes the symbolic doors of eternity with the greatest of joy. Quintus utters Maximus name, brief return to reality to complete his mission. He gives his 2 commands and then the conveys the dream and wishes of Marcus Aurelius. He goes back and now he wanders through the fields in the direction of home. He falls. He is aroused back by Lucilla. He asks Lucius is safe. she nods. He acknowledges it. He finally has peace and solice while clinging with his last breaths in eager anticipation for what awaits him. She say go to them. The body remains the soul departs. MAXIMUS returns back & completes the process of his reunion with them. Giannina Facio. who played Maximus' wife stunningly beautiful: full mane like- curly hair, light olive complexion, mesmerizing eyes, high arched eyebrows, and heart melting smile and son was so adorable. She says with a heavy heart Your home. A TIMELESS CLASSIC in cinematography... True, that the ending in TITANIC, women cried. But the ending of GLADIATOR, there was not a SINGLE dry eye but a draining nose and a lump in the throat... That is the beauty of the powerful and unreleasing grip of a cinematic dramatic tragedy such as GLADIATOR...
