Restaurants and cafes

1.Toyama-shi

-Thai food, Lasha
Little bit expensive, but worth paying.
It's real cuisine and good atmosphere.
A waitress is willing to explain the food, if you were a stranger.
Possible to adjust hot seasoning.
Not easy place to find and no parking lots.
From 17:00 to midnight, every Mondays closed.
My favorite: Ginger ale

-Nepali food
Casual and friendly atmosphere.
A set meal at an affordable price.
Easy to find.
From a window, you can watch a Nepali cook making Tandoori chicken.
Good location to go by trim.
The nearest trim station is Nishi-cyo.

- Indian food, Santoshi (Near toyama JR station)
It’s the newest Indian restaurant in Toyama. Taiwanese owner and amazing Indian cooks are waiting for you friendly. There are so many delicious dishes that you can’t choose easily. My favorite is Sag Paneer curry, spinach and cheese curry. You choose the level of spicy. In the following site, you can look into the menu.

- Indian food, The Taj Mahal
A pioneer in authentic ethnic food in Toyama-ken.
Music and aroma of India would make you puzzle where you are.
From snack to real dinner, they can give you what you need.
The spiciest and hottest curry is green curry, next are red and black.
People can eat those three curries are regarded as one of the member of the restaurant.
No special privilege, if you can eat.
You can just blow your own trumpet to your friends.
The owner, a Japanese, is eager to invest and donate to make schools for the kids in Sri Lanka.
From noon to 11p.m.
Location: main restaurant is near Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University. Other branches are also in Daimon-machi and Himi-shi in Toyama-ken, and other kens, other prefectures.
My favorite: Fried chicken and mango juice.

-Crepe, Robinson
You can take one of the best crepes in Toyama.
Especially the mill of crepe is the best I've ever tried.
From 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Location: In front of Sport park of Toyama, near Toyama Higashi high shcool
My favorite: strawberry sherbet and fresh cream filled crepe and tuna filled crepe

Café for Vegan, Nyakki
Cozy atmosphere and healthy foods.
Avoid around 12 on weekends.
Recommend: Daily lunch special (900yen) + Soy milk with maltose (hot or cold)

Really Vietnam food.
You can enjoy simple dishes and rich flavor.
Those dishes remind me of travel in Saigon.
No smoking.
(That's why I often go.)
As dinner is expensive, I often go to there.
Always crowded at lunchtime.
My favorite:Noodle and fresh roll

-Kakigohri, Yamakawa
A Japanese sweet for summer.
Shaved ice with sweet syrup such as strawberry, green tea and lemon.
My favorite one is condensed milk with bean jam and rice-flour dumplings.
Always crowded afternoon.
Along a stream, the cafe is cooler than other places.
I often go there in the terrible hot afternoon.

2.Takaoka-shi

-Tempura, Tenyone
Expensive, but delicious and good atmosphere.
A typical Japanese tempura restaurant.
They serve you freshly fried vegetables and fishes.
Take your time and enjoy them.
One of restaurants I used to go when I was a kid.
So I was stunned how expensive I should pay,
when I grow up and paid for my meal.
But I bet it is worth of paying.
You may need to make a reservation.


-Okonomiyaki, Nmai-ya
A Japanese-style pancake containing a wide variety of ingredients such as bits of meat, seafood and chopped cabbages.
You make it yourself in front of a hot plate.
Of course, a waiter or waitress helps you, if you need.
Though it is near Toide station, necessary a car to go.
From noon to 10p.m.
Always crowded after 7p.m.
My favorite: Gomoku Monjya

-Coffee, Crown Kaikan
Awarded a prize as one of cafes
that serves a cup of delicious coffee in Japan.
A big underground cafe.
Variety of coffee.

-Coffee and Cake, Kabocya
Rich homemade cakes.
I like watching an owner making a cup of coffee.
Ask her if you wonder which a cup of coffee or tea goes with a piece of cake you choose.
My friends insist they've never drunk such a tasty coffee in thier lives. If you are a cofee lover, try it ;-)
Quiet and comfortable atmosphere.
Most customers are middle-aged women or couples.
Near Nomura elementary school.

-Okonomiyaki,
Given the place, the busiest time is night.
Old favorite restaurant, but friendly for a one shot customer.
Reasonable price and taste.
Good for a light meal after drinking alcohol.
2 or 3 minute walk from Takaoka Station.

-Soft ice cream, Majima
It is the one of famous sweets in my hometown.
You can enjoy only in summer.
Reasonable price and big size.
Popular among every age.
In front of Takaoka Art museum.
Easy to find because of a long line for waiting.

-Taiyaki, Miyata
A Japanese traditional sweet, a fish-shaped pancake filled with bean jam.
Popular snack especially in winter.
You can find it easily at other places, but this shop is famous.
People make a long line to get it, when the season comes.
In front of Sekino Shrine.
From 10a.m. to 6p.m.

-Sweets, Masuya
Standard Japanese cafe.
You can eat sweets such as a pancake and fruit parfait
and other Japanese sweets.
Most local people may have visited when they were a student.
A haven of rest, when you are tired of shopping around the downtown
or have a long chat with your friends.
You can find it, wandering into a byway at downtown.

-Brazilian food, Corsan de Brazil
A Brazilian family runs a Brazilian grocery store and restaurant.
It is the place of recreation and relaxation
for Brazilians who live in Takaoka-shi.
People watch Brazilian programs, play cards and exchange information.
You can choose meals you want, measure your dishes, and pay money as to weight.
Most main dishes are beef or chicken.
Brazilians seem to prefer beef to fish.
My favorite: Fejioada, a bean and meat stew
At a grocery store,
you can buy Brazilian sweets, coffee, tea, variety of beans, and so on.
I often go there to buy meats and mate-tea.
The Prices and quantity are competitive.
You can also find some vegetables which are familiar in Brazil.
5 minutes walks from the south entrance of Takaoka Station.

-Chinese food, Tenshinhanten
Good taste and reasonable price.
For local people, one of familiar Chinese restaurants from of old.
Near Daiwa department.
Offers free-delivery (Note:only the neighborhood)

-Udon & Soba, Yoshimune
One of famous Udon restaurants in Takaoka-shi.
Big dishes and reasonable price.
Always lively with customers.
Especially curried udon is popular.
Don't be surprised the big sucking noise, when people eating.
In front of Takaoka city-run hospital

-French food, Casserole

A Cozy French restaurant near SATY.
Always crowded.
At lunchtime, office workers and women enjoy lunch menu.
My standard is hamburger steak with mustard source.
Dessert is also mouth-watering.
From 11a.m. to 10 p.m.

-Indian food, Shangri-La
Enjoy Indian atmosphere and delicious dishes at a reasonable price.
An Indian owner welcomes you friendly.
The menu shows the level of spicy.
It is only a guideline.
He asks and adjusts your curry to your favorite taste.
In front of Shikino junior high school.

-Udon & soba, Tokyo-an
A traditional Japanese bistro along the main street in downtown.
My standard is Nabeyaki udon, a noodles served hot in a pot.
It makes your body warm in winter.

-Italian food, Tenma
An Italian bistro along Otaya Street
One of my friends had worked there and cooked me carbonara at her home.
As it was so unforgettable taste, I visited the bistro to try again.
I often visit there to have a lunch, after going to Daiwa department with one of my friends.
They are also glad to find a good bistro.

-Italian food, Roman-tei
Location is great.
It is next to the gym in Kojyo Park.
People enjoy pastas and waching green, with placid mood.
Most customers are middle persons, especially women.
Good for Sunday's lunch and then take a walk in Kojyo Park.
Basil source pasta is my favorite.

- Cafe, Seikatsu-kan

An old Japanese sake shop turned into a goody shop and a café. I love the café’s atmosphere. Whenever my friends visit Takaoka, I take them this cozy café. You can enjoy Japanese traditional architecture and crafts. Along the Yamamachi street that builds old merchandisers’ houses, you can find the café.

- bakery, romanbell
My favorite bakery since I was a kid.
I really love the breads. Every bread and custard cream are made from scratch. You should try a french loaf! You can't eat such a real one in Toyama. I like a french loaf included cheeze and corn. Panetone is also sold.
It is covenient for me because it's open until 9 at night.
The owner is so polite (You must be surprised).

- Café SCIW
Small and cozy café near Takaoka JR station.
I love the atmosphere. A owner, a waiter and a cook- everyone is so friendly. You might feel you are a frequent customer, even you visit there for the first time.

Recommend: an omelet with a filling of ketchup-seasoned fried rice
