Tokyo Tower One of the most iconic landmarks in Tokyo

■ Tokyo TowerFrom my office, Tokyo Tower stood gracefully against the sky, so I couldn’t resist capturing the moment. Though Tokyo Skytree is impressive in its own right, I find myself drawn to the timeless elegance of Tokyo Tower.Tokyo Tower, located in Minato City, Tokyo, is a 333-meter-tall self-supporting steel structure and one of Japan’s most iconic landmarks. Completed in 1958, it was originally built to serve as a broadcasting tower for television and radio signals. The tower was designed by renowned architect Tachū Naitō, often referred to as the “Doctor of Towers.” While inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Tokyo Tower incorporates earthquake-resistant engineering unique to Japan. The construction took approximately one and a half years and involved over 220,000 workers. Tokyo Tower features two observation decks: the Main Deck at 150 meters and the Top Deck at 250 meters. The Top Deck was renovated in 2018 and now offers a futuristic atmosphere with LED lighting and mirrored surfaces. On clear days, visitors can enjoy panoramic views that stretch as far as Mount Fuji and the Bōsō Peninsula.At night, the tower is beautifully illuminated. My Little One

■ Nikon D40xWhile tidying up my moving stuffs, I found my old camera! It is a Nikon D40x, a model that was released in 2007. The camera features a 10.2-megapixel sensor, a 3-point focus area, and an ISO maximum of 1600. Compared to the latest models, it may seem somewhat underwhelming, but it is a camera that holds many precious memories, as I gifted it to my wife as the first her DSLR. Today, for the first time in 15 years, I decided to give it a try pairing with an 18-140mm VR lens. It was difficult to take pictures with the old camera, but it felt like I was taking pictures carefully one by one with film in the old days, and it was a lot of fun. Big Ben from the London Eye

■ Old and New in the UK From the London Eye, you can see Big Ben, which is located on the north side of Westminster Palace. It is a clock tower approximately 96 meters tall. Its official name is the Elizabeth Tower, and it was completed in 1930. The building is designed in the Gothic Revival style.The London Eye is a Ferris wheel about 135 meters high. On a clear day, you can enjoy a panoramic view of London's major sights, including Big Ben. From the observation capsules, you can see Westminster, Hyde Park, St. James's Park, and even the distant cityscape. Big Ben is positioned slightly to the left when viewed from the wheel.On fine days and during nighttime when the tower is lit up, you can appreciate the intricate details of Big Ben and the enchanting atmosphere created by the illumination.The ride lasts about 30 minutes, during which you can enjoy breathtaking views of London, its historic buildings, parks, and lush greenery—truly a delightful way to experience the beautiful scenery of London.When taking photos, I found the glass windows of the capsules to be quite a hindrance. The glass isn't perfectly transparent, which can adversely affect the quality of the photos taken with my camera lens.
