■ Showa Memorial Park
Showa Memorial Park is a large urban park located in Tachikawa, Tokyo, and opened in 1977. This park was created to commemorate the 50th year of Showa Emperor, and is characterized by its vast grounds and natural surroundings (about 180 hectares, one of the largest parks in Tokyo). Showa Memorial Park is easily accessible from the center of the city, yet is surrounded by a rich natural environment. You can enjoy the changes in flowers and nature throughout the seasons, such as cherry blossoms in spring, fireworks and fountains in summer, autumn leaves and cosmos in autumn, and illuminations in winter. The autumn leaves are particularly spectacular. There is also a Japanese garden. It is attractive for its quiet beauty and calm atmosphere, and there is also a teahouse where you can experience the tea ceremony. The park is very large, so you can cycle around the park. Bicycle rentals are also available. The bicycle path is well maintained, so you can enjoy cycling comfortably. There are also plenty of play equipment for children, and a large grassy area. It is a great place to visit with your family. Showa Memorial Park is a place where you can spend time actively enjoying nature, and many events are held there throughout the year. It is easily accessible from the city center, making it a popular weekend destination. ![]() Olympus E-5 / Zuiko Digital ED 50-200mm F2.8-3,5 SWD / 1/400s / F3.5 / ISO100 / + 0.7 ![]() Olympus E-5 / Zuiko Digital ED 50-200mm F2.8-3,5 SWD / 1/2000s / F3.5 / ISO100 / - 0.3 ■ Cosmos in Showa Memorial Park Cosmos is a beautiful annual plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is famous for its flowers, which can be seen especially in autumn. Cosmos is native to Mexico and was introduced to Japan during the Meiji period. Cosmos flowers are characterized by various colors (especially pink, white, and purple) and petal shapes, and the way they sway in the wind is beautiful. Cosmos generally grow tall, and the flowers are about 5 to 10 cm in diameter and have 8 to 10 petals. They mainly bloom from summer to autumn and are especially popular in September and October. They are easy to grow and are suitable for creating landscapes in gardens and parks, making them a popular plant. Cosmos is also resistant to drought and can be grown with relatively little care. When the sunlight is soft in the early morning or evening and the shadows are long, the flowers will shine with morning dew, and the warm light at dusk will create a nice atmosphere. By being mindful of the background and blurring it with a shallow depth of field, the cosmos flowers will stand out, resulting in a memorable photograph. If you consider the rule of thirds or other techniques and place the cosmos flower at an intersection, you'll create a well-balanced composition. The sunlight will make the petals shine through, creating a beautiful silhouette. You can also use a macro lens or close-up mode to capture the petals and stamens inside from up close. It's also nice to take photos with butterflies that come to suck nectar from the flowers. Use these points to have fun taking your own cosmos photos! ![]() Olympus E-5 / Zuiko Digital ED 50-200mm F2.8-3,5 SWD / 1/800s / F3.5 / ISO100 / - 0.3 ![]() Olympus E-5 / Zuiko Digital ED 50-200mm F2.8-3,5 SWD / 1/160s / F3.5 / ISO100 / + 0.3 ![]() Olympus E-5 / Zuiko Digital ED 50-200mm F2.8-3,5 SWD / 1/2000s / F3.5 / ISO100 / - 0.3 ![]() Olympus E-5 / Zuiko Digital ED 50-200mm F2.8-3,5 SWD / 1/1000s / F3.5 / ISO100 / + 0.3 ![]() Olympus E-5 / Zuiko Digital ED 50-200mm F2.8-3,5 SWD / 1/1000s / F3.5 / ISO100 / + 0.3 ![]() Olympus E-5 / Zuiko Digital ED 50-200mm F2.8-3,5 SWD / 1/800s / F3.5 / ISO100 / - 0.3 ■ Taken on 7th Sep 2011 by following equipment.
