The Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe are both iconic landmarks of Paris, France, and are among the most famous tourist destinations in the city. ■ Eiffel Tower The Eiffel Tower is located near the Champ de Mars park on the left bank of the River Seine. It was constructed for the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle (World's Fair), originally intended to be a temporary structure, but its grandeur and beauty led to it becoming one of the defining symbols of Paris. Standing at around 330 metres tall, it was the world's tallest structure when it was completed. Made of iron, the construction took more than two years, and its design has become a symbol of modern iron architecture. From the top of the Eiffel Tower, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city, and especially at night, when it is illuminated, it presents a stunning sight. Construction began in 1806 and took around 30 years to complete. This massive archway stands at approximately 50 metres in height and 45 metres in width, and its grandeur leaves a lasting impression on visitors. Beneath the arch is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a memorial to the fallen of World War I, where an eternal flame burns every evening. Additionally, the top of the Arc de Triomphe has a viewing platform offering yet another spectacular view of Paris. Both of these structures not only symbolise the history and culture of France, but also stand as essential landmarks for anyone visiting Paris. So, instead of shooting in colour, I decided to focus on capturing images with black-and-white development in mind. I borrowed my daughter's OM-10 III camera and used it for the shoot. Despite being an entry-level camera, it delivered impressively sharp and crisp photos. I was thoroughly satisfied with the quality of the results. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom, so I captured them in black and white as well. Black-and-white photography has its own charm and elegance.
