■ Bristol Balloon Fiesta The Bristol Balloon Fiesta is a world-renowned hot air balloon event held annually in August in Bristol, UK. The latest event was held on 9-11th Aug 2024. It started in 1980 and attracts over 130 hot air balloons. The main highlights of the event include the morning and evening balloon flights, as well as the "Night Glow" in the evening, where the balloons light up in sync with music, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Additionally, there are parachute jumps and acrobatic performances. The event also features stalls and activities, making it a family-friendly experience. Each year, more than a million people visit, and it is a must-see event for hot air balloon enthusiasts. Participated in the Night Glow, and the sight of many balloons lighting up in time with the music to create a magical atmosphere was incredibly impressive. ■ Photography For photography, it’s a good idea to have both a fast wide and a telephoto zoom lens. Since you’ll be watching the event on a vast meadow surrounding the balloons, there will be quite a distance between you and the balloons. If you want to capture many glowing balloons, a wide one is ideal. On the other hand, if you want to photograph moments when the balloons are releasing flames, a zoom one would be more suitable. It’s important to increase the ISO to a level where noise isn’t a concern, while ensuring you can shoot with as fast a shutter speed as possible. I personally didn’t use a tripod, as it can get in the way of other spectators. There are also many stalls, so you can enjoy a picnic atmosphere with your family while watching the balloons with drinks and foods.
