The move should re-invigorate studies into the country's ancient history, which have so far depended mostly on legends and myths. 古墳が研究関係者により詳しい調査のため初めて公開される見込み。公開によって日本の古代史に対する研究が再び活発化する。古代史は伝説や神話の範疇に入っていた。 But the change in the rules still won't allow any excavation, nor the inspection of any bodies. It won't, therefore, solve the big mysteries ; such as which emperor lies in which tomb, or whether the imperial family has remained purely Japanese or, as some have claimed, been influenced by Korean and Chinese bloodlines. しかし、この慣習の変更は古墳の発掘や検証を認めるものではない。したがって、大きな謎は残されたままになる。例えば、どの天皇がどの古墳に眠っているかとか、皇族の家系は純粋に日本人だけなのか、また、一部の研究者が言うように、韓国や中国の血統が入っているのではないか、というような疑問は解明できないだろう。 The Imperial Household Agency, which tightly controls the privacy of the royal family, made the decision in late December. The move follows a 2005 petition from 15 academic associations, including archaeologists, zoologists and botanists, to open up 11 royal tombs. 皇室を厳密に管理している宮内庁が、１２月下旬に古墳の公開予定を発表した。この公開は、考古学者、動物学者、植物学者を含む15の学会から２００５名の嘆願による。11の古墳が公開される予定。
