The Kims - mother and father Chung-sook and Ki-taek, and their young adult offspring, son Ki-woo and daughter Ki-jung - are a poor family living in a shabby and cramped half basement apartment in a busy lower working class commercial district of Seoul. Without even knowing it, they, especially Mr. and Mrs. Kim, literally smell of poverty. Often as a collective, they perpetrate minor scams to get by, and even when they have jobs, they do the minimum work required. Ki-woo is the one who has dreams of getting out of poverty by one day going to university. Despite not having that university education, Ki-woo is chosen by his university student friend Min, who is leaving to go to school, to take over his tutoring job to Park Da-hye, who Min plans to date once he returns to Seoul and she herself is in university. The Parks are a wealthy family who for four years have lived in their modernistic house designed by and the former residence of famed architect Namgoong. While Mr. and Mrs. Park are all about status, Mrs. Park has a flighty, simpleminded mentality and temperament, which Min tells Ki-woo to feel comfortable in lying to her about his education to get the job. In getting the job, Ki-woo further learns that Mrs. Park is looking for an art therapist for the Parks adolescent son, Da-song, Ki-woo quickly recommending his professional art therapist friend "Jessica", really Ki-jung who he knows can pull off the scam in being the easiest liar of the four Kims. In Ki-woo also falling for Da-hye, he begins to envision himself in that house, and thus the Kims as a collective start a plan for all the Kims, like Ki-jung using assumed names, to replace existing servants in the Parks employ in orchestrating reasons for them to be fired. The most difficult to get rid of may be Moon-gwang, the Parks housekeeper who literally came with the house - she Namgoongs housekeeper when he lived there - and thus knows all the little nooks and crannies of it better than the Parks themselves. The question then becomes how far the Kims can take this scam in their quest to become their version of the Parks.

The woman that plays the daughter in the poor family deserves an Oscar nomination because she stole the show for me. Beautiful, fierce, determined, when she's ordering the rich mother to do this-and-that. wow. Powerful film. Everyone's superb in it.

I feel like the decision to break down the scene in english didn't do it justice at all, i wish they had done it fully in korean so they would have been more comfortable discussing and expressing ideas and symbolisms.

There's a scene where the kid went outside to sleep in his yard, I was kinda thinking he did that before his birthday because he didn't wanna see the ghost You can also see him writing out the Morse code in his tent sent by the ghost using the lightbulb.

Everything I see about Parasite makes me appreciate it more and more, such a perfect film.

The music behind this scene is not a classical piece but an original sound track called 'The belt of faith' which was solely composed for the Parasite. The composer has an interesting background too, he has never classically trained but a genius who did not finish school but was a self taught pop/jazz musician from young age. Bong rejected him 8 times until he agreed to this one for the scene. I thought I am done with Parasite but there is always more to fascinating.

The look on the fathers face while picking up the bloody tissue was priceless.

When Jessica sat on the toilet with the cigarette, my heart was rushing thinking the gases from the sewage would cause an explosion. Edit: A tiny flame and a ton of sewage gas make boom boom.

To be honest, I've first seen the main actor, as a sidekick in Train to Busan, and as a bottom (uke) in a boys' love (BL. bromance mini series called The Boy Next Door and I've always been amazed in his acting skills. The movie will definitely not be a masterpiece without him, along with the other great artists as well. He may be a beginner, but his acting is pro. More movies/series for him in the future! I think he's super close / friends with BTS' V as well.

The rich mom didn't even have the slightest skepticism. She's really simple.
Call me by your name: The peach is a sensual erotic fruit that insinuates forbidden lust that mustnt be trifled with Parasite: Hold my Soju.
I've never seen a movie like Parasite. It's like walking into a room not knowing what's inside only to be shocked and amused at the same time by what you see in every nook and cranny. #thisiscinema, My #1 movie of 2019 followed by 1917 and Joker.

I will literally THROW HANDS if Hollywood decides to remake this because nothing will ever top this masterpiece.

FUN FACT: Yang Jin-Mo the editor used 11 year old discontinued software final cut pro 7 to edit. He's nominated for best editing at the Oscars this year.

This is definitely my favorite one that Vanity Fair has done. Their chemistry is unbelievable and their obvious love of film just shines. Thank You Lord for Bong.

The part where the son is teaching his father how to act is funny to the korean viewers because the father is a veteran actor while the son is a rising star in real life. Its like having tom holland teaching dicaprio how to act.

This movie was so good! However my subs were bad, it was amazing.
I've read that no adult gets the morse code from the actual maid's husband actually means that lower class' mesaages never reaches to the upper and even if it does, the upper doesnt seem to understand. but the boy gets it and it reflects that the director have faith in newer generations.
I love this movie. i'm so happy Bong Joon ho is getting the recognition he deserves.
