The Japanese Fleet lost the moment they failed to achieve several objectives at Pearl is simply a huge stroke of luck. And as a certain Japanese Admiral said, if they can't managed to force a victory, or at least momentum of victory, in the first 6 months, then they are shit out of luck in the war.
