In My Destination (17)

Overseas Travel(31)

-Thu. 10/8/2006 (The sixteenth day -1- )- In my class, I was the eldest student. All my classmates were around 20 years old except a Korean female in her late 30’s. She often asked our teacher questions, expressed her opinions or spoke to the student next to her in class. Our teacher often made fun of her and we burst into laugher. Today’s my partner in pair works was her. I would like to write about her a little bit more. She used to run her own business in apparel industry in Korea. As she had worked hard without rest for more than ten years, she came to feel like taking a good rest and decided to come here. Now, she has been studying English to expand her business. She started in a lower-elementary class and had improved to a upper-immediate class in 18 months. She is going to a business school for local people from next month to gain confidence to start a new business. She left her husband in Korea and brought their 14- and 6- year-old sons here. It is really fun to talk with her. She said, “Funfun and I can’t stop talking because we are ‘azuma’ ! 'Azuma' means married women who have children in Korean." Our teacher laughed and said, “Be careful! If you keep talking like this, I will cough and cough and end up getting asthma! Anyway, it’s interesting the two words ‘azuma’ in Korean and ‘asthma’ in English sound similar!! Ha,ha,ha!” All the teachers and students, including me, like her very much. She always offered some interesting topics to us.
