Not only from the photos of iceberg melting and polar bears roaming around for food, but also from the recent climate change in Japan I realize that global warming is imminent. I think many people are warried about the future of the earth. Paris agreement in 2021 COP meeting aims to keep the global warming below 1.5. But the earth is heading toward 3 degrees of global warming.
The biggest emitter of greenhouse gas is China, followed by the US, India and EU. They make up 83% of global emission. Japan is the 6th after Russia. In the meantime, when it comes to per capita emission, the ranking of top emitters are Saudi Arabia, Australia, the US, Russia and Iran, and Japan ranks 8th. Emissions by US and EU have been reducing since 2008, and China's emission started to level off. Whereas in India and other developing countries the emissions will be rising. But the US and Eu have long history of emission.
The emission reduction from 2022 level to meet 1.5 degree by 2030 among top emitters are estimated by taking into consideration various factors including their history of emission. The ninty percent is for EU, 71% for the US, 69% for Japan and 65% for South Korea. I feel that these percentages are not fair for Japan and South Korea because of their relatively shorter history of industrialization.
