田んぼのある風景 in 東ティモール

田園↑（2014年4月5日、マナツト県、東ティモール） 　田植えを終えた田んぼが目の前に広がります。 　遠くの方にある家は、日本の藁葺き屋根の農家のように見えて何となく日本を思い出させてくれます。 　ヤシの木があるので、ここは南国であることに気付きます。 　ここから東の方向へ足を延ばしてバウカウ県に入ると、すでに穂が出ていて、稲の花が咲いています。 　熱帯地方ですので、だいたいいつ植えても米は作れますが、雨季と乾季がありますので、水が来る時期やリスク分散を考えて品種や時期を決めて田植えをすることになります。 【Bon appétit !】 　Maize and rice are the country's main staple foods. 　Over the last 100 years a great deal of effort has been put into increasing the rice production in East Timor in order to make the country self-sufficient. 　Rice, when planted on terraces is also perceived as a means of protecting the soil from erosion. 　The total area reached a peak of 80 000 ha before 1975, but was never enough for the needs of the country. （http://gov.east-timor.org/MAFF/English/Rice.htm）
