【Bon appétit !】
In the mid-1990s it was estimated that Vientiane Prefecture contained almost 1,500 km2 of permanent and seasonal waterbodies, floodplains, swamps and marshes. These wetland areas supply a wide range of economically valuable goods and services, including fisheries, farming and natural resource collection activities, flood attenuation(減衰), maintenance of water quality and supply, and treatment of domestic, agricultural and industrial wastes. That Luang Marsh is the largest of these urban wetlands. Situated on the outskirts of Vientiane City, it provides important resources and agricultural land for local communities both in the city and in the bordering rural areas. It also functions in flood protection and water treatment for the urban center.
