Before the compressed air from the compressor flows through the pipe network and finally reaches the actuating element, it has to pass through various gaps and throttle holes in the pressure reducing valve and control valve. If impurities such as dust and moisture are mixed in the compressed air, there is a risk of malfunctions and malfunctions when flowing through the components. Therefore, before the compressed air enters the control circuit, a compressed air filter is installed to remove these harmful impurities.

Impurities contained in the compressed air, if not filtered by the air compressor, can be drawn in with the air as solid dust particles and solid impurities such as rust coming off the inner wall of the pipe, which can cause poor operation if they get stuck in the sliding gap of the directional control valve or the seat of the pressure control valve. In addition, the air drawn into the compressor is compressed and pressurised and then sent out via the after-cooler and storage tank. When the air temperature drops, it precipitates supersaturated moisture. Most of this moisture is separated by the after-cooler, but a small proportion enters the control circuit and components, causing rust and corrosion of the parts and washing away the lubricant film. At the same time, compressed air also contains deteriorated and harmful oil mist, which is suspended in the air and tends to attach to sliding parts and mix with other impurities to form sludge, which often accumulates in narrow air passageway gaps and causes the unit to fail to operate properly.

Compressed air filters remove the impurities present in the compressed air and improve the reliability of the pneumatic control circuit. Generally in power circuits consisting of common directional control valves and actuators, filters with both centrifugal separation and filtering action are usually used. When oil mist must be completely removed, an oil mist filter should be used. In order to prevent pollution, especially the large bore long stroke cylinder due to the exhaust oil mist caused by environmental pollution, it is necessary to use the exhaust oil mist filter. In pharmaceuticals, food and other special needs occasions, can be used to remove bacteria filter and deodorisation filter.
