One thing you must accept about Japan - nature doesn't like it. Maybe because of the post-war tendancy to cement over these beautiful islands. In any case, typhoons and earthquakes seem to be the order of the day. Shortly before this page went up, the country got hit by Typhoon Tokage. This one kept me inside the whole day except for a little adventure to the neighborhood Lawson convenience store. After I saw my own city name on the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) homepage, I began to realize why it was a good idea I didn't go very far. The highway was flooded, the breakwater was broken etc...
Now we have an earthquake. When I say we I don't mean this area of Japan. But an earthquake in Japan is felt all across the country. Not physically, of course, but it sends you a stern reminder about where you live. The poor people of Niigata got the brunt of that reminded last night. The rest of us can only watch on TV such alarming sights as a shinkansen bullet train partially de-railed or a section of highway completely missing. In the midst of all this we have been partying. I saw Collateral yesterday and we came home after and had a Mexican party. Chips, salsa, Corona etc... Thanks to our good friends at Costco Japan. Now time to get back to this new drama I'm watching. It's sort of like real life. A married couple and their grown up kids. Very witty though. I need to see more. For those in Japan, check out "Fufu" on TBS, Sunday nights at 9pm. お気に入りの記事を「いいね!」で応援しよう
