Kakamigahara Aerospace Science Museum

Museum Series(2)

This post is a long time in the making, but I hope you'll forgive me. A couple years ago I had the opportunity to visit the Kakamigahara Aerospace Science Museum (各務原航空宇宙科学博物館). From the first time I saw the advertisment for the place, I really wanted to go, so I was quite happy to finally be able to visit. So, I know what you're thinking, "Why Kakamigahara?" Actually the aviation industry is deeply rooted in the area; the Gifu Airbase of the Japanese Defense Force is in Kakamigahara and the city is home to the oldest airfield in Japan (built in 1917) and Kawasaki Manufacturing. But the place's history is only part of the reason why I think it's such a great tourist destination. There are all kinds of planes on display inside the museum (especially planes that have a connection with Kakamigahara), test aircraft, aircraft used for practice maneuvers, and more. Besides that, you can learn about famous Japanese and world aviators and engineers, principles of flight, the launch of satellite rockets, and the Mars Rover. You can also try out the flight simulator (provided it's in operation)! There are planes on display outside which you can tour, a picnic area, and a playground for the kids. ACCESS: 15 minutes by bus from Meitetsu Shiyakushomae Station (名鉄市役所前駅) - Webmaster2010 Gifu Crossroads on Facebook Gifu Crossroads on Twitter
