KNIVES OUT MOVIE - Rated PG-13 for thematic elements including brief violence, some strong language, sexual references, and drug material

WOW what a huge cast, Daniel Craig with a southern accent - ha what a stretch, that added comic relief throughout the film for me.

It opens with a policeman interviewing each sibling or family member of Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) who is now dead, was an interesting introduction to each character as they were questioned, but boring to me with the same chair and back and forth memories in audio and not visual! Its a twisted who-dunit murder mystery like an Agatha Christie, with a today's touch. The film has many of those Christie tropes of a detective warning us about foul play, marking everyone a suspect, and setting up all of the clues in plain sight. It all comes down to 60 million in cash, a publishing company and the mansion that everyone believe they deserve, or at "least their cut. The "trump troll" and "some" lines open your eyes and smile that this mystrigue is not set up in the past, but today. Yet the characters, screen set and back-drop are in no way, anyone I know of, and I've met many many people. The short political subtext thrust the audience into today, but also a narcissistic home and selfish family your glad you dont really know.

It has an all-star cast - I was happy to see some of the "old" stars back, Christopher Plumber - the Father, Don Johnson - who plays a son, Jamie Lee Curtis - daughter, Micheal Shannon. is a son. that has a Trump loving son played by actor; Jaden Martell - and I found that to be a funny satire because the actor, Micheal Shannon is a big mouth progressive liberal. Toni Colette - daughter, Daniel Craig - the investigator, and Ana de Armas- the nurse care giver of the Father. ALL were funny and great in acting especially Ana de Armas who I dont really know but look forward to seeing her in another movie soon. All except, Toni Colette she was TERRIBLE, spewing lines as puke, over acting, she was worse than the 2 German Shepherds that were cast in the film. Every time she was in a scene she ruined it, deflated the energy and believability, constantly unprepared off tone and pace, I would not hire her to narrate a elementary school science film, BUT ENOUGH about her.

Each Character's history and perspective of what happened to the Father (murdered) because of their personal past and recent interaction with him, is Lived-out from the past memories initiated by the verbal back and forth questioning as Daniel Craig the southern Investigator keeps searching. All are waiting for the big "surprise" The WILL reading, that shocks the characters and family members, but not the audience. I almost fell asleep, and just smiled no laughs, good acting except Toni, as I mentioned earlier) but the plot was not a surprise, so I give it a C. If its raining and you've got nothing else to do, wait till its on tv and boor yourself then.

Like Agatha's mysteries, so intriguing! Some of Sherlock's colors and cuteness of brown eyed brunette like Amelie. br>

Back in the days of black-and-white, mystery films were quite common but as the years went by, they became less and less common with the mystery genre becoming the domain of television. This is a pity, because I like an old-fashioned mystery. Between this movie and Murder on the Orient Express, it's nice to see the genre make a comeback. Director/writer Rian Johnson was definitely trying to evoke an old school mystery film with this homage, and after seeing the trailers, I definitely wanted to see this. I even went to a farther away early access screening because I couldn't wait. I'm pleased to say this definitely met my expectations. Knives Out is just a really well told movie. For 2 hr., 10 min., this is finely paced and edited. Johnson really knows how to steer the story, especially the beginning and introduction to the facts of the case. Besides being a mystery, this movie is also a critique of privilege, which I felt Johnson managed to not beat the audience over the head with. The movie also has a good sense of humor. The suspects consist of the Thrombey family, who from one extent to another all have leeched off of the money and success of patriarch and mystery writer Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). They are such a delightfully self-entitled but diverse group of larger-than-life dysfunctional people. I'm a little disappointed that we didn't get more of them. (Ana de Armas' Marta Cabrera, Harlan's personal nurse, is the actual star of the film. ) I especially thought that Linda Drysdale (Jamie Lee Curtis) is given short shrift. The cast is excellent all the way through, and I just don't have time to mention everyone. The best performance is by Daniel Craig as Southern gentlemen detective Benoit Blanc. He just kills it as the eccentric and well-spoken detective. I also appreciate that Benoit isn't portrayed as a socially awkward, mircaulous wunderkind as is often the case with detectives these days. Benoit is definitely the smartest guy in the room, but solving the case is real work for him. Again, this is Ana's story. The trailers make Benoit look like the lead. Just don't want you to have false expectations. He is one of the biggest players, make no mistakes. The movie looks great. The Thrombey estate is delightfully grand and old-fashioned looking and is decorated with a wide assortment of mystery-themed or antiquated bric-a-brac. The outfits all look great as well. There is only one thing about this movie that bothered me. The score tries for a classic mystery feel to it but tries too hard. A couple times it felt like they were just blasting the music in my face. Overall, this is just a very entertaining movie and definitely something for mystery fans.

Ruined by political propaganda. Boring biased story line. Took what could have been a great movie and try to push an agenda. I wanted to be entertained not have political views crammed down my throat. I could have just watched the news.... What a waste of time!

So many movies today are a disgusting, overt insults to American Citizens. Everyone in Hollywood hates us and they make these movies to tell us so. We this movie sure made me return the feeling, with a little extra contempt for Bezos and the people at Amazon that deliver this vile material.

The first 30 minutes of this movie were really, really good. The cinematography is gorgeous, the dialogue snappy, the editing engaging. But it all fell apart once the first twist is revealed and Rian Johnson starts getting self indulgent. I really don't like that he likes to have meta lines about how stupid his writing decisions are as if that justifies them. For example, we get the most boring car chase in cinema and when it's over one character says "that has to be the dumbest car chase I've ever seen". The detective sounds like a Foghorn Leghorn parody and they point it out at the end of the movie as if that makes it any less ridiculous! The writing gets flat out stupid at times. There's a scene where the detective claims that the case is like a doughnut with a hole that needs to be filled by a doughnut hole. Our lead character can't lie or else she vomits uncontrollably. A bad movie from a horrible writer.

Something from Agatha Christie like “Murder on the Orient Express” or “Death on the Nile” or Sherlock Holmes (not the ones with Robert Downey, Jr) or even TV’s “Columbo. ” Here’s the latest example and it’s a good one. Last seen directing “Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, ” Rian Johnson helms this familial who-done-it set in New England. A respected and wealthy novelist named Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) has just celebrated his 85th birthday. His entire family is there except for one grandchild, Ransom (Chris Evans). Others include daughter Linda (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her husband Richard Drysdale (Don Johnson), parents of Ransom. A son, Walt (Michael Shannon) and his wife Donna (Riki Lindhome), a daughter-in-law, Joni (Toni Collette) whose husband died, grandchildren Meg (Katherine Langford) and Jacob (Jaeden Martell). Also in the house was housekeeper, Fran (Edi Patterson) and Harlan’s nurse and caretaker, Marta (Ana de Armas). The evening of the birthday, Harlan is found dead, apparently of suicide by slitting his own throat. As the film opens, a detective, Lt Elliott (LaKeith Stanfield), a State Trooper Wagner (Noah Segan) and a mysterious private detective named Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) are questioning the family and staff one by one. Elliott is about to close the case but Blanc asks to keep things open for a while. Craig, goes from his native British accent to a syrupy southern drawl that seems perfect for the character, the American version of Hercule Poirot. When a few days later attorney Alan Stevens (Frank Oz) comes to read the will. The first one who shows up Ransom. As someone says, typical Ransom, missing from the birthday, first in line for the will reading. As a surprise to everyone, Harlan’s fortune including the huge Victorian mansion and grounds, the book publishing corporation, book residuals amount to millions of dollars don’t go to those who expected them, but the person closest to him…Marta! In fact Ms. De Armas is the surprising lead actor in this thriller. She’s quite good in what has to be her biggest role. The cornpone PI eventually manages to put it all together with help from Harlan’s way-old mother (K Callan). The film is full of surprises and wonderful humor. In one scene when Blanc first meets Ransom, Ransom asks, “What is this, CSI: KFC? ” Family fun. Recommended.

I have scored it 9 out of 10, just because i was waiting for so long to experience genuinely this kind of mistry and thrill from a detective movie. And i am so far satisfied by this one. I was so impressed at first that i nearly compared it with next to Sherlock Holmes kinda film. But yeah, as in i put the title, if you want a true detective essence, the True detective series will surely help you but, this 2 hours long film is no way lesser than that.

OK so where do i begin with The Dark Knight? Christian Bales is an amazing Bruce Wayne, he gives him a grittiness and an edge that i've never seen given to the character before. Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine are amazing as Batman's buffers so to speak, they do a great job at keeping his ego in line and making sure he knows what he must do. Next we're gonna go to Aaron Eckhart, the way he plays the character of Harvey Dent makes you so sympathetic to his cause at the end of the movie. Maggie Gyllenhall was a very good Rachael and the only thing i found lacking with her character was her time on screen. Gary Oldman is perfect as Commissioner Gordon, and last but not least is Heath Ledger as The Joker. Heath Ledger makes the Joker delightfully terrifying and disturbing, he made me feel uncomfortable just watching him which is exactly what i was hoping for. The action sequences and special effects were top notch and this movie did not fail to deliver in any way shape or form. I guess the only question that remains is what's next, who is gonna be the villain in the next movie.

The Dark Knight is the second part of Christopher Nolan's gritty re-imagination of the Batman saga. The cast of Batman begins stays with the exception of Katie Holmes being replaced by Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes. Morgan Freeman's Lucius still supplies Batman with his cool cars and gadgets and Michael Caine still plays Batman's servant Alfred. If there's one thing to criticize about The Dark Knight it's something that seems to be an issue in many Christopher Nolan films: The explanatory dialogue. Nolan doesn't always follow the rule "Show, don't tell" and has his character be stand-ins for the audience, explaining what could be communicated visually. It's a minor flaw though and the only thing taking the viewer out of this otherwise ridiculously great film.

Accompanied by Hans Zimmer's score the film moves forward at a steady pace, allowing the story to happen and the characters to develop simultaneously through their actions. The cinematography has epic proportions and the use of action is never unnecessary filler material but a device to move the plot forward, always full of gravitas and feeling like it has actual consequences. Other superhero films need music montages to make the hero look cool. Batman in The Dark Knight is always cool, without the need for artificial coolness, as it should be.

The Dark Knight turns the conception of "The superhero is purely good and fights against the purely evil villain" around. There are always casualties. There's no such thing as a perfect choice that makes the good people happy and the bad people pay for their crimes. The world is unfair and for Harvey Dent's character that's unbearable. Because evil and corruption have taken what he loved most away from him he decided to bring justice to Gotham by making everything happen unbiased, by chance.

The Joker brings chaos into the world of the superhero where there should be the good guys and the bad guys. He makes people question their moral and tries to make them believe that they all are like him, maniacs only being held back by society's laws and rules. The courts of Gotham itself is corrupted by the mob so even the place where justice should be isn't safe of bad people and moral injustice. Heath Ledger personifies that idea of anarchy so well and every bit of praise he's gotten is well deserved.

In the end Batman cruises through the night, having done his deed, knowing that there is no final justice but that everything he's done has improved morality and justice on the whole. He lets someone else take the fame and goes back into the dark streets of Gotham, waiting for the next maniac to come along, upping his defense and making us want to see if he manages to expel evil in the last part of the trilogy.
