I don't understand how Disney can make a movie like this nowadays. A film about animal cruelty, to put it bluntly. It is aimed at children, you get that because the animals talk, but it is really a really tragic story. No comedy.

You get to see pictures of the real Ivan that the film is based on at the end. It was the only worthwhile moment.

I give one extra star because of the animation. The rest gets one star.

This movie would have been way better if they had Dwayne Johnson be the voice of Ivan the gorilla.

The voice of the guy just doesn't feel right for a gorilla to me.

Silverback guerilla Ivan (Sam Rockwell) grew up with his human trainer Mack (Bryan Cranston) who has built an animal circus show in a shopping mall. Stella (Angelina Jolie) is an old female elephant. Ivan has a pet dog (Danny DeVito) which sneaks into his cage all the time. The show is struggling with small crowds until Mack brings in a baby elephant from a defunct circus.

This is an anthropomorphic animal feel-good movie inspired by a true story. I really like the story and the characters. There is one issue. This is nowhere near the true story. It leaves me wondering if a closer rendition of the true story would be more fitting. Either that or leave the true story to google. Overall, it's a sweet story. I like that Mack is an understandably conflicted man who always loves his animals despite some missteps. When the closing credits happen, I kept wondering when that movie is coming out.

This film was cute. My 5 yr old and I both enjoyed it. It reminded me of old Disney films: sweet and heartfelt. No crass language, no scary scenes, nothing I found offense. Plus, a terrific cast.

Yes it's a tear jerker at times. Yes it's a bit hokey at times. Yes it's a bit slow at times. Yes it took liberty with the true story. Yes it's still a great movie!

Whole family loved it. A true Disney gem. Just like Walt would of made.
