In the morning, I went to the library of Meisei Univer-
sity, which was planned. This is to have the University
Rare Books Collection show "William Morris --In search
of Idea Books".
The Meisei University rare book collection is famous
worldwide and boasts 5400 volumes of books. I visited
in the past and had me show the Shakespeare's First
Folio collection. They also showed me Immanuel Kant's
and Rune Descarles's autograph letters.
The rare library room of Harvard University is also
famous, but the library of the Meisei University in my
neighborhood, speaking of William Morris exhibition,
is what of the so-called Kelmscott Press Morris had
designed and published, out of 66 volumes as they
have 65 volumes, I am also surprised and happy.
The Kelmscott Press ed's "The Works of Geoffrey
Chaucer" which is one of the world's three most beau-
tiful books, which I have only seen in image materials
(or if I can get a hand-held printed book by copying,
I would be happy) you can see the real thing in the
collection in a close look!
That is why I saw the books published by William
Morris until the end of my mind in the quiet hall
where only one young woman was alone in the ex-
hibition room.
Yes, this is also noted. What I have shown today
is the 16 books of the first phase of the exhibition
and "Shakes peare Poems" edited by John Benson
published in 1640, but the books by William Morris
were uncut except "Chaucer" and one other volume.
I asked the library staff, but they are definitely un-
cut pre-boundary. In a word, it is that it is a state as
it was printed by hand-operated printing machine
the Albion with William Morris' specially hand-made
paper from hemp.
This is exactly the point of a drowning for biblio-
phile. Meisei Univerity has been able to obtain such
an uncut format so much!
