I came across a project called Cubo that promises you can earn set daily returns without mining or staking large amounts. Sounds too good to be true — but I decided to try it out anyway.

Their $2,000 “Chico Cubo” node claims to pay 1.05 Cubo per day — worth $21 at current prices. That’s over 21% daily, and 7,665% annualized!

But this is crypto we’re talking about. Let’s look at the risks involved.

Cubo has some red flags that give me pause:

• Super high returns — in finance, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Where is this crazy yield coming from?

So while returns look amazing on paper, this thing screams “high risk” to me. Doing proper due diligence is essential before investing.

My Experience With a Cubo Node

Despite the risks, I decided to test Cubo with a small amount of money. In March 2022 I purchased a $850 “Femto Node.”

At the time, Cubo was $18 per token. My node was supposed to generate 0.09 Cubo per day, worth around $1.62. That’s $489 per month, or $5,868 annually.

Not a bad return on $850! But here’s what actually happened:

The Cubo token crashed to around $3. Now my node earns just $0.27 per day — about $8 per month. My $850 is now worth only $160.

So instead of earning 5X my investment, I’ve lost 80% in less than a year. Like I said, super high risk!

On the plus side, node prices have dropped proportionally. So if Cubo recovers, the potential returns on new nodes would be spectacular.

But I’m not ready to double down. This experience reinforced the need to diversify and manage risk with crypto projects like this.

​Final Thoughts: How To Make Money With Crypto in 2022

My experiments yielded some useful insights:

• GPU mining is not profitable for beginners anymore. But can work well if you already own the hardware.

Passive income from crypto is appealing, but also challenging in 2022. My advice is to stick with tried and true investing principles:
