AI doesn’t work without quality data. And creating it still is a huge bottleneck. That’s why we’ve launched the Annotators Hub: a structured, community-driven initiative where contributors help evaluate and shape high-quality datasets through focused annotation challenges.
高品質なデータがなければAIは機能しない。そして、そのデータ作成は依然として大きなボトルネックとなっている。だからこそ我々はアノテーターハブを立ち上げた。これは、貢献者が特定の集中アノテーション・チャレンジを通じて高品質なデータセットの評価と構築を支援する、構造化されたコミュニティ駆動の取り組みだ。

The goal is to improve AI performance by improving what it learns from: the data. High-quality annotations are the foundation for reliable, bias-aware, and domain-relevant models. And Ocean is building the tools and processes to make that easier, more consistent, and more inclusive.

Human annotations remain the single most effective way to improve AI performance, especially in complex domains like education and politics. By contributing to the Annotators Hub, the Ocean community members directly help build better models, that can power adaptive tutors, improve literacy tools, and even make political discourse more accessible.
人間の手によるアノテーションは、特に教育や政治のような複雑な分野において、AIの性能を向上させる最も効果的な方法であり続けている。アノテーターハブに貢献することで、オーシャンコミュニティのメンバーは、適応型チューターの強化やリテラシー向上ツールの改善、さらには政治的議論をより分かりやすくするための優れたモデル構築を直接支援することになる。

For example, LiteracyForge, the first challenge ran in collaboration with Lunor.ai, focused on improving adaptive learning systems by collecting high-quality evaluations of reading comprehension material. The aim: to train AI that better understands question complexity and supports literacy tools. Here are a few highlights, as the challenge is currently being evaluated:

This time we’re looking into analyzing speeches from the European Parliament, to help researchers, civic organizations as well as the general public better understand political debates, predict voting behavior, and make parliamentary discussions more transparent and accessible. Yes, this initiative can be seen as a “launchpad” for a marketplace with ready-to-use, annotated data, designed to give everyone access to training-ready data that meets real-world quality standards. But on that in an upcoming blogpost.

As we get closer to the end of 2025, we’re doubling down on utility, usability, and adoption. The next phase is about scale and about creating tangible ways for Ocean’s community to contribute, earn, and build.

4. Lunor: Crowdsourcing Intelligence for AI

Lunor is building a crowdsourced intelligence ecosystem where anyone can co-create, co-own, and monetize Intelligent Systems. As one of the core projects within the Ocean Ecosystem, Lunor represents a new approach to AI, one where the community drives both innovation and ownership.

Lunor’s achievements so far, together with Ocean Protocol, comprise of:

5. Predictoor and DeFi Trading

About Predictoor. In Predictoor, people run AI-powered prediction bots or trading bots on crypto price feeds to earn $. The “earn $” part is key, because it fosters usage.

Predictoor involves two groups of people:

• Predictoors: data scientists who use AI models to predict what the price of ETH, BTC, etc will be 5 (or 60) minutes into the future. The scientists run bots that submit these predictions onto the chain every 5 minutes. Predictoors earn $ based on sales of the feeds, including sales from Ocean’s Data Farming incentives program.

Predictoor is built using the Ocean stack. And, it runs on Oasis Sapphire; we’ve partnered with the Oasis team.

Predictoor past, present, future. After Predictoor product and rewards program were launched in fall 2023, the next major goal was “traders to make serious $”. If that is met, then traders will spend $ to buy feeds; which leads to serious $ for predictoors. The Predictoor team worked towards this primary goal throughout 2024, testing trading strategies with real $. Bonus side effects of this were improved analytics and tooling.

Obviously “make $ trading” is not an easy task. It’s a grind taking skill and perseverance. The team has ratcheted, inching ever-closer to making money. Starting in early 2025, the live trading algorithms started to bear fruit. The team’s 2025 plan was — and is — keep grinding, towards the goal “make serious $ trading”. It’s going well enough that there is work towards a spinoff. We can expect trading work to be the main progress in Predictoor throughout 2025. Everything else in Predictoor and related will follow.

6. bci/acc: accelerate brain-computer interfaces towards human superintelligence
6. bci/acc：人類の超知能化に向けたブレイン・マシン・インタフェース（BCI）の加速

Another stream in Ocean has been taking form: bci/acc. Ocean co-founder Trent McConaghy first gave a talk on bci/acc at NASA in Oct 2023, and published a seminal blog post on it a couple months later. Since then, he’s given 10+ invited talks and podcasts, including Consensus 2025 and Web3 Summit 2025.

bci/acc thesis. AI will likely reach superintelligence in the next 2–10 years. Humanity needs a competitive substrate. BCI is the most pragmatic path. Therefore, we need to accelerate BCI and take it to the masses: bci/acc. How do we make it happen? We’ll need BCI killer apps like silent messaging to create market demand, which in turn drive BCI device evolution. The net result is human superintelligence.

Ocean bci/acc team. In January 2025, Ocean assembled a small research team to pursue bci/acc, with the goal to create BCI killer apps that it can take to market. The team has been building towards this ever since: working with state-of-the-art BCI devices, constructing AI-data pipelines, and running data-gathering experiments. Ocean-style decentralized access control will play a role, as neural signals are perhaps the most private data of all: “not your keys, not your thoughts”. In line with Ocean culture and practice, we look forward to sharing more details once the project has progressed to tangible utility for target users.

2025 has been a year of turning vision into practice. From Predictoor’s trading traction, Ocean Nodes being pushed into a GPU-powered Phase 2, to the launch of Annotators Hub, and with ecosystem projects like Lunor driving community-led AI forward, it feels like the pieces of the Ocean vision are falling into place.
