As the lead guitarist, your responsibilities include: playing melodies, performing fill-in licks between vocal lines, and shredding hair-raising, spine-tingling, mind-melting guitar solos! If you want to become a lead guitarist, you’ll need to have a solid command of scales, licks, and techniques common among all rock guitarists.
Connecting guitar chords with single note runs and fills is one of the best ways to spice up a chord progression. This technique is widely used in all forms of guitar music, from classical to rock 'n' roll and everything in between. However, it can be quite confusing for a novice to know which notes to play when crafting a fill or a run.
Begin with essential rhythm guitar patterns; set the metronome to play quarter notes, eighth notes, triplets, and sixteenth notes.
