洗面台の蛇口が壊れて洗面台ごと交換（25万）と言われた話 Broken Faucet Nightmare: Sink Replacement for 250,000 Yen
築30年の古屋に住んでいるが、水回りについては2008年に大掛かりなリフォームを行った。90センチ幅のこのTOTOの洗面台もその際新設したものである。I live in a 30-year-old house, but the plumbing was extensively renovated back in 2008. This 90 cm-wide TOTO washbasin was also newly installed during that renovation.蛇口とレバーの部分はそれぞれ別になっている。レバーを持ち上げれば水が出て、下げれば止まる。左に回すとお湯が出るというよくある仕組みである。The faucet and the lever are separate parts. Lifting the lever turns the water on, pushing it down turns it off. Turning it to the left releases hot water—this is a common mechanism.そのレバーが先日壊れてしまった。写真でみると、単に蓋が外れたようにも見えるが、蓋の部分は接着されていて、その接合部分のプラスチックが割れてしまっていた。The lever broke just the other day. Looking at the photos, it might seem like the cover simply popped off, but actually, the cover is glued on, and the plastic at the joint had cracked.早速馴染の建設会社（かつて家のリフォームをお願いしたところ）に連絡して、担当者に来てもらったところ、なんと「この洗面台は生産が終了して久しく、部品ももうないので、洗面台ごと取り替えるほかない。」という衝撃の回答。で、その見積もりが工賃含めて約25万円とのこと！I immediately contacted the construction company I know well—they did the renovation work on my house before—and had a representative come by. To my shock, I was told,“This washbasin has been out of production for a long time, and the parts are no longer available, so the entire unit must be replaced.”The estimate for the replacement, including labor, was about 250,000 yen!どうにも納得できない。だって、単にレバーの蓋の接着部分が壊れただけですよ。I just can’t accept that.After all, it’s just the glued joint on the lever’s cover that’s broken.汚い写真で恐縮だが、プラスチックの部品を外してみると、9mm角のレバーが出てきた。要はゲームセンターのゲーム機のように、このレバーを上下左右に操作できるものがあればいいわけで、これで洗面台全部を交換というのはどう考えても理不尽すぎる。とりあえず、壊れた部分を両面テープで貼ったり、接触する部分にラップを巻いたりして、だましだまし使いつつ、まずは近所のホームセンターに行ったみた。しかし、ここでも「そのような部品はないし、聞いたこともない」というつれない返事。それで今度は、楽天で「洗面台」「蛇口」「レバー」「9ｍｍ」などのワードを打ち込んで検索してみたら、意外にそれっぽいものが出てくるではないか！Apologies for the messy photo, but when I removed the plastic part, a 9mm square lever was revealed. Basically, what’s needed is a lever that can move up, down, left, and right—like the joystick on an arcade game machine. So having to replace the entire washbasin over this is just utterly unreasonable.For the time being, I tried sticking the broken part back on with double-sided tape and wrapped plastic wrap around the contact points to keep it working somehow. Then, I went to a nearby home improvement store. However, they gave me a cold response: “We don’t have such parts, and we’ve never heard of them.”So next, I searched on Rakuten using keywords like “washbasin,” “faucet,” “lever,” and “9mm.” To my surprise, something quite close to what I needed actually showed up!蛇口 レバーハンドル 水道 ハンドル 水栓蛇口 レバー シングルレバー 水栓ハンドル 洗面台 キッチン 用価格：1,869円（税込、送料無料) (2025/5/30時点)これらのハンドルが使えるかどうかは試してみないことにはわからないのだが、1869円と安価だったこともあり、ダメもとで購入してみた。待つこと約10日。送られてきた部品を装着してみると…I won’t know if these handles will actually work until I try them, but since they were reasonably priced at 1,869 yen, I decided to take a chance and buy one.After about 10 days of waiting, I received the part and tried installing it…なんの違和感もなく、装着することができた。I was able to install it without any issues or awkwardness.使用感もまったく問題なし。お湯と水の色分けがないことを除けば、正規の交換部品だと言ってもいいぐらいのしっくり感だ。25万かかるところ、1869円で済んだと喜ぶべきか、それとも1869円で済むものに25万かけるところだったと、話のネタにするところだろうか。まあ、業者の名誉のために書いておくと、私がいつもお願いしている建設会社は基本的にとてもよくやってくれるところで、今まで数えきれないほどお世話になってきたし、２年前の年末に家の中が水浸しになったときも、比較的安価で迅速に対応してくれた。ただ、今回ばかりは、もう少しユーザーに寄り添って、丁寧に調べてほしかったなぁというところである。カミサンいわく、担当者は「破損部分をろくにチェックもしなかった」というのだから‥。人手不足の中、こんな些末な案件にいちいち対応していられないというのがあちらの本音かもしれない。まあたしかにそれはそうだろう。近所でどこかフットワークのよい工務店があるといいのだが、長年住んでいてもさっぱりそのようなつながりを作れずにいる。それともうひとつ、この洗面所、照明が蛍光灯なので、いずれそちらをLEDに変えなければならない。そこでもまたひと悶着ありそうな気がする。今のうちに蛍光灯を何本か買っておこうかなぁ…。The feel of using the replacement part is completely fine. Apart from the lack of color coding for hot and cold water, it fits so well that you could almost say it’s an official replacement part.So, should I be happy I got away with spending just 1,869 yen instead of 250,000? Or should I joke that I was about to pay 250,000 for something that only cost 1,869? Either way, it’s quite the story.To be fair to the company, the construction firm I usually rely on has always done excellent work for me. They’ve helped me countless times over the years and even responded quickly and affordably when my house flooded at the end of 2 years ago.That said, this time, I wish they had taken a bit more care to really check the damaged part and been more user-friendly. According to my wife, the person in charge “barely inspected the broken part.”I guess with the current labor shortage, they might feel they can’t afford to spend time on such minor issues. Fair enough. It would be nice if there were some nimble local contractors nearby, but even after living here for years, I haven’t managed to make such connections.One more thing: the lighting in this washroom is fluorescent, so at some point, I’ll need to switch it to LED. I have a feeling that might cause another hassle. Maybe I should stock up on a few fluorescent bulbs while I still can...
