When I put a CD in the tray, it wouldn’t read it and the tray would just open again. At first, it would read the CD about once every few tries, but eventually, even after ejecting and inserting the CD more than 30 times, it just wouldn’t read at all.The amplifier also started having issues — sound stopped coming from one of the speakers, and every time I adjusted the volume, there was a crackling noise mixed in.At that point, I gave up and decided to dispose of both units, replacing them with an all-in-one Marantz receiver.【在庫あり!即納可!】Marantz M-CR612 FN マランツ ネットワークCDレシーバー Amazon Music HD [シルバーゴールド]価格：74931円（税込、送料無料) (2022/7/5時点)7万超のプライスは高いといえば高いですが、これまで使用してきた一見ミニコンポのようなアンプとＣＤプレーヤーもリミテッド仕様で、合計10万円ぐらいだったと記憶しています。買い替えた結果、音がダウングレードしないかという若干の心配がありましたが、それは杞憂に終わりました。The price tag of over 70,000 yen may sound steep, but as I recall, the amplifier and CD player I had been using—though they looked like a mini stereo system—were limited-edition models and cost around 100,000 yen in total.I did have some concerns that replacing them might result in a downgrade in sound quality, but those fears turned out to be unfounded.スピーカーを接続してみて、まず音の傾向が随分と変わったのに驚きました。ウォームで芯のあった先代のアンプから、寒色系ですっきりしたものになり、なによりオーケストラの楽器のそれぞれの音が明瞭に聞こえるようになりました。このマランツのレシーバー、実はもうひとつ売りがあります。それは「バイアンプ接続」ができることです。バイアンプというのは、4chアンプを搭載し、バイワイアリングに対応している2ウェイスピーカーのツイーターとウーファーを別々のアンプでドライブすることです。我が家にあるBOSE363は、もともとフルレンジのBOSE121にチューンアップスピーカーBOSE242を付け足して、低音と高音を補強したもの。121と242をそれぞれ別につないで駆動させることも可能なはずです。ネットで検索してみると、同様の試みをしている方の書き込みが数件ヒットしました。「すばらしい音になった」という人もいれば「あまり効果がなかった」という人もいるようです。さっそくスピーカーケーブルを買い足して、121と242それぞれバイアンプ接続にしてみたところ、音自体は少しやせ気味なった気がしましたが、各楽器の音の分離がより明瞭に感じられるようになりました。とはいえ、レシーバーのもうひとつのウリである「パラレルBTL接続」でつないだときとの差はわずかな気もしました。今回、新たに購入したBluetoothレシーバー、マランツCR612については、このあたりのことを含めてもう少し使用したところで、あらためて報告したいと思います。When I first connected the speakers, I was surprised at how much the sound character had changed. The previous amplifier had a warm, solid core to its sound, but this new one has a cooler, cleaner tone. Above all, the individual instruments in orchestral music became distinctly clearer.This Marantz receiver actually has another selling point: it supports bi-amping. Bi-amping means using a 4-channel amplifier to separately drive the tweeters and woofers of a two-way speaker system that supports bi-wiring.At home, I have a BOSE 363 setup, which originally consists of full-range BOSE 121 speakers upgraded with the BOSE 242 tuned speakers for enhanced bass and treble. It should be possible to connect the 121 and 242 separately and drive them independently.A quick search online showed some people have tried this setup. Some report “amazing sound,” while others say they “didn’t notice much difference.” I went ahead and bought extra speaker cables to try bi-amping the 121 and 242 separately. The sound seemed a bit thinner overall, but the separation between each instrument’s sound became noticeably clearer.That said, the difference compared to the “parallel BTL connection” mode—which is another selling point of the receiver—felt slight.I’ll continue testing the new Marantz CR612 Bluetooth receiver, including these connection modes, and report back after more use.それにしても、スクラップ寸前だったBOSE363が、予想以上のよい音を聞かせてくれるようになったのには軽く感動すら覚えました。新居に引っ越して、オーディオを書斎に置くようになって以来、就寝時に音楽を聴くことはなくなっていました。その書斎も３畳の狭さとあって、大音量でオーディオを鳴らすことはできませんでした。ステレオセットのスピーカーを大音響で鳴らしたい、そして就寝時にスピーカーから音楽を聴きたいという長年の私のささやかな夢が、ようやくかないました。That said, I was genuinely moved by how the BOSE 363—which was almost headed for the scrap heap—now produces sound far better than I expected.Since moving to my new home and setting up the audio system in my study, I hadn’t listened to music while going to sleep. The study is only about three tatami mats in size, so I couldn’t really play the stereo loudly.For years, I had a small dream of playing my stereo speakers loudly and listening to music from them as I fell asleep. At last, that dream has finally come true.
