One of my favorite things about the film is the use of color schemes. Light hues such as baby blue, lime green, and sunny yellow are mainly calming colors. But the use of them in a horror film put me out of my comfort zone more than I would have been in a typical slasher film. This might be me just over analyzing too, but I think that the pastels in the more gruesome parts of the movie are meant to confuse the main characters about what they perceive as normal and comforting vs everything else. The cult is attempting to blur the line between “right” and “wrong” and the color scheme proved that even more for me.

Finally a take about midsommar that doesn't romanticize cults.
Ari Aster should be applauded for his innovative decisions: 1. the use of bright sunlight to make the horrific aspects of Midsommar even more impactful 2. turning conventional wisdom on its head with the use not just male nudity in a comedic context (as has already been depicted hundreds of times in the raunchcoms) but seeing the humor in women: He made the call to use a chorus of nude older ladies cheer on a couple to fulfill their responsibility. The audience in my theater was laughing rather loudly, and this only increased after one of the women literally took matters into her own hands. The timing of the scene cut the tension perfectly, and won't be soon forgotten. These were among the bold decisions by a gifted film-maker who once again is proving to be ahead of the curve.

I get the feeling that this video is going to stir up quite a bit of controversy lol.

This is an interesting video and I enjoyed it, and what I'm about to write is only tangentially related. As someone who grew up close to Hårga, this film leaves somewhat of a sour taste in my mouth, and I think the eclectic use of anything which seems to an American to be related to Scandinavia and slightly occult kind of annoyed me. Ättestupa, the blood eagle, runes, using Hårga as a backdrop presumably because of the nearby Hårgaberget, etc, it just seems like a lot of different, random elements were thrown in just because it fits the aesthetic, and without much more thought than that. I think it's a good film but I'm annoyed at its location and how it uses it, essentially. As a sidenote, you could just google how to pronounce å and ä, you know ! You've got the same sounds in English.

Now regretting the fact that I just casually watched it without paying attention. I missed out on so much creepiness I WANT TO BE DISTURBED.

This really reflects on sweden too, one of the larger parties in Riksdagen is a far-Right party founded by nazis. Sweden really is gettin way too comfortable with fascistic ideas. Mostly due to fearmongering about the 2015 immigrant crisis and general mismanagment by the Socialdemokrats.

Ari Aster is kinda cute I need a restraining order against him. I'm also scared of him.
Because of 'The Good Place' I have a hard time taking seriously any movie that unironically casts William Jackson Harper as a bookish nerd. But it is funny how just yesterday, I was thinking about 'Midsommar' specifically how it would have unfolded had the cult been tricked into targeting someone who is not just already secretly aware of its existence and methods but also planning on destroying it from the inside.

Havent watched the movie but this really does seem like heaven and hell since its heaven since they are preforming a beautiful dance and hell since it a seemingly endless dance where they are being commanded to constantly change directions.

I think watching the film during quarantine after a shit breakup really colored the way I initially saw this movie, but this video is really making me revisit that reading lmao. Thanks so much 🌼.

I love that Midsommar actually shows that people who get drawn into Cults aren't targeted or even find themselves joining a cult because they're stupid or because they're weak. Anyone is susceptible to being targeted & seeking cults, especially when they're at a in their life because the cult sees that need for fulfillment and will promise it to you if you follow them. There are people who seek answers to big questions, unsatisfied by conventional sources, that end up in cults for the same reason. They see that yearning for answers and will promise them. I hate to see the comments documentaries of past cult members experiences & general cult documentaries where so many say you must really be a moron to think this guy is some sort of God/profit/etc or an idiot is born every second and they all end up in cults when we know, psychologically, that isn't the case...

Imagine still trusting the shills... I mean critics in 2019. Prostitution has more dignity.
