花見友紀の「鉄道のある日常」

E259系電車の導入によってこの6月30日に「成田エクスプレス」からの引退が決定したJR東日本253系電車のうち3両編成2本が長野電鉄へ移籍する。

1991（平成3）年生まれでまだ使えると思っていたが、やはり高速で走ると老朽化も早く来てしまうもの。そのためE259系への世代交代が始まった。E259系への置き換え完了後は、215系電車同様行楽列車用車両となるのかと思っていたが、意外や意外、長野電鉄に活躍の場を移すことになった。

長野電鉄では小田急10000形電車「HiSE」が2005（平成17）年に移籍し、特急「ゆけむり」として走っているが、今回は「成田エクスプレス」だった253系を導入することに。「成田エクスプレス」と小田急ロマンスカーと東急8500系が同じ線路を走るなんて誰が想像しただろうか。


Two 3-carriage sets of JR East 253 Series, the first generation carriages for Narita Express retiring on June 30th, move to Nagano Electric Railway.

253 Series debuted in 1991 and has been in service as Narita Express. However, the faster speed the carriage could run at, the older they get. Then E259 Series is replacing them. I think 253 Series changes its role to event train, with the same uses as 215 Series. But unexpectedly, two of them transferred to Nagano Electric Railway.

On Nagano Electric Railway, Odakyu Romencecar 10000 Series HiSE transferred in 2005 and is in service for limited express "Yukemuri". But this time the railway introduces the train for Narita Express. Who could imagine that Narita Express, Odakyu Romancecar and Tokyu 8500 Series run on the same railway?
