花見友紀の「鉄道のある日常」

26日に僕の友人がJR東日本の社員の方から聞いた話だが、2010（平成22）年6月に「成田エクスプレス」から引退したJR東日本253系電車が大宮総合車両センター（宮オオ）で「日光」・「きぬがわ」用に改造されるそうだ。

「成田エクスプレス」からの引退後、3両編成2本が長野電鉄に払い下げられることが決定していたが、6両編成については処遇が分からない状態が続いた。廃車にするのか、それとも臨時列車や他の運用に転用されるのか…。

そこに思いもよらない情報が届いた。485系と189系「彩野」を置き換えるため「日光」・「きぬがわ」用に改造されるというのだ。公式発表はまだないものの、253系が廃車にならずに済みそうだから安心した。






My friend told me that a JR East staff said that some sets of 253 Series, previous Narita Express, is being adapted to Nikko and Kinugawa service and are being refurbished.

After the retirement from Narita Express service, two sets of 3-carriage 253 Series moved to Nagano Electric Railway, but the treatment of 6-carriage ones wouldn't be announced. Railfans including me worried about the treatment; abandoned or changing its use.

Then, I can hear a piece of good news, 253 Series will transfer to Nikko and Kinugawa service to replace 485 and 189 Series. Though the official news release doesn't upload yet, I'm relieved at this news; 253 Series won't be abandoned.
