Bold chabrialartys faces


Tom pecheux sees himself as a 'curator' of global beauty trends.

The drama is not just in the clothes on fashion runways.Here's an example of the striking looks that appeared on models in new york shows earlier in the year.

Tom pecheaux, who is estee lauder's new creative makeup director, led a team of 15 artists to transform 22 models at derek lam's"The myth of the west"Runway show into ethereal beings for fall/winter 2010.

Pecheux began his career 30 years ago by assisting legendary makeup artist linda cantello, but it iscountvnings was through his close creative relationships with renowned photographer mario testino and stylist(Later french vogue editor, from 20012009)Carine roitfeld in the 1990s that he established himself as a leading force in makeup.

Throughout his career, pecheux has consistently worked with the finest fashion photographers, including testino, patrick demarchelier, craig mcdean, peter lindbergh, inez van lamsweerde and vinoodh matadin.

He has also created runway looks for leading fashion houses including ralph lauren, givenchy, balmain, yves saint laurent and jeanpaul gaultier.

During the fall/winter 2010 new york fashion week earlier in the year, a group of journalists had been invited to observe pecheaux in action at capitale, a centuryold building in manhattan chinatown that used to house a bank.

Appointments had been scheduled from as early as 8am to allow the models time to prepare for the midday show.So, still barely awake, we made our way past the building's grand ballroom and descended the narrow staircase that led to the basement where pecheaux and his team were already busy at work, brushes and lipsticks in hand, working their magic on a few models who had turned up earlier.

Pecheux worked his magic on model liu wen.

While eyes and lips were given prominence, cheeks remained bare and nails were painted a neutral colour.

The rest of the models trailed into the cramped makeup room and soon there was hardly standing room for the journalists.We were split into several small groups to watch the makeover sessions.The results, as seen on the faces of models ksenia kahnovich and liu wen, were stunning.

Pecheaux, who signed on with estee lauder in november, has been working on a new vision for the brand's pure color cosmetics, infusing the range with vibrant hues for fall.

"When derek showed me the fabrics that inspired his fall collection bold and muted tones mixed with earthy pigments including terracotta, greens and browns i thought the makeup shades should be complementary,"Pecheaux shared.

"So we chose a blend of bold blue shadows on the eyes, shimmering copper lips, and flawless, matte skin created with a light foundation. "

Pecheaux sees himself as a kind of"Curator"Of global beauty trends for the brand.

"I work with fashion designers, models and editors on runway shows and ad shoots in the us, europe and asia, and i am constantly learning and absorbing new ways to maximise colour and make women look their best.

"When we create looks for fashion shows, we work with all types of women blonde, brunette, pale skin, and dark skin.We create one look for the show and every woman has to fit that look.

"And at the end, when the makeup is done correctly, all of cheap prom dresses uk the women look beautiful. "

Pecheaux pointed out that technology is always moving forward, and women seek the best and the latest in their products.

"If a cosmetics company doesn't move fast, it can get lost in the shuffle.It is essential that a company specialising in beauty is up to speed with the current trends in fashion. "

Pecheaux believes makeup should be fun, sexy and beautiful.His makeup philosophy is, first and foremost, to make a woman look her most beautiful, yet at ease and confident.

"There was a time when i worked in a department store, and i would see women who carry the pain of the world on their shoulders.Then, with a little bit of makeup, suddenly they would walk away feeling so confident and empowered.

"They were no longer just a mother or wive, but a woman.I think that's something women around the world should always remember there are no borders, no boundaries to being able to look and feel your best. "

Beginning in fall 2010, new, highimpact colour products influenced by tom pecheux will be available at este lauder counters.His makeup artistry will be featured in new advertising campaigns with este lauder model hilary rhoda.
