Aloha mai kakou, It is "Aloha Thursday" today here in Hilo, the Big Island, Hawaii. Tomorrow is Independence Day! I remember that on the last Independence Day, I was still at Nawahi for the Kahuawaiola indigenous teacher program. We stayed at Nawahi for 5 weeks having one class after another, getting up at 5:00 a.m. and going to bed at 1:00 or 2:00 a.m. almost everyday. On Independence Day, one of the families called school for a BBQ party, but of course, we had a very tight schedule and it does not matter if it was a holiday or not! So, my classmate said, "For us, Independence Day is nothing!" Yes, from a Hawaiian perspective, it is not something to be celebrated when I think about the sad history of Hawaii. Tomorrow, I am just going to clean my room and relax. No picnic or BBQ party for me tomorrow! Mahalo & Aloha! na Pilialoha お気に入りの記事を「いいね!」で応援しよう
