Killers of the Flower Moon is the latest work of veteran director Martin Scorsese. The western-crime movie is adapted from the novel of the same name by David Grann published in 2017.  In this project, Scorsese collaborated with screenwriter Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, The Curious case of Benjamin Button) to work on the script. He also re-teamed with Leonardo DiCaprio for the lead role. Here is the synopsis of Killers of the Flower Moon. The film's story centers on the life of the Osage, a Native American tribe living in the Oklahoma area. In the 1920s, the Osage were considered one of the richest tribes in the world. The name was pinned because the Osage tribe managed to find oil under the land where they settled. They then managed the export of the oil, thus enriching every local resident of the Osage tribe. The results of these abundant resources can also still be enjoyed for generations. Osage members and their heirs, whether native Osage or not, are entitled to oil production royalties. They have this right based on their land ownership. The rights can also be passed on to legal heirs, including non-Osage. The wealth of the Osage tribe at that time was so massive that it was estimated at more than US$400 million. People outside the Osage tribe inevitably heard of the nation's wealth. The Osage are said to be the richest clan or social group of any race in the world. So, people from outside the area scrambled to find work in the oil industry there. Some opportunistic white people also wanted to make a profit, one of them was William King Hale (Robert De Niro). He spent a long time building relationships with the Osage nation. The closeness was established for the sake of a big plan, namely controlling the land and rights to oil royalties from the Osage nation. One of these plans is to invite his unemployed nephew, Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio). Ernest is invited to come live among the Osage people with the aim of marrying one of the tribe's native women. After some time, Ernest falls in love with someone named Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone). Ernest eventually married Mollie, the daughter of a native Osage family who had two sisters named Anna (Cara Jade Myers) and Minnie (Jillian Dion). However, the marriage turns out to have other motives beyond the love between Ernest and Mollie. Ernest, on King Hale's orders, must take a series of actions to secure Mollie's family land rights. These actions involve Ernest, King Hale, and another nephew named Byron (Scott Shepherd). Their mission coincides with a serial murder case that is also terrorizing the native descendants of the Osage tribe. Killers of the Flower Moon is Martin Scorsese's latest work after releasing The Irishman (2019) four years ago. In that project, Scorsese worked with veteran screenwriter Eric Roth. Killers of the Flower Moon stars a series of Hollywood hit actors, including Leonardo DiCaprio who has become Martin Scorsese's 'subscription' actor. In addition to DiCaprio as the lead, the movie stars Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, and Brendan Fraser. Killers of the Flower Moon had its global premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. After the premiere, the movie received a standing ovation for up to nine minutes. Killers of the Flower Moon hits theaters starting October 18.
