ネオテニー（幼形成熟）という言葉があります。胎児または赤ん坊の形と性質をもっ
たまま成熟して生殖能力をもつにいたった生物種のことをネオテニーといいます。
ウーパールーパーはメキシコサンショウウオのネオテニーです。ヒトも霊長類のネオ
テニーと思われます（Ｌ．ボルグや今西錦司）。ヒトはチンパンジーの赤ん坊と同じ
性質を持っています。ネオテニーは幼少期が長く大人になってもいつまでも未熟とい
うか、子どものような性質を持ち続けます。子どものような性質というのは、姿形・
運動能力のことだけではなくて、精神的成長期間が長くて、学習意欲が持続し、いつ
までも好奇心が旺盛である、という点に見られます。
ヒトは、ダーウィン的に説明すると、複雑で厳しい環境に適応し、同類からの淘汰圧
を受ける中で、採用した戦略がネオテニー戦略だということになります。この説明は
目的論的に見えます。たんに偶然そのような種が生まれたのだと思います。結果的に、
知能の発達によって意図的に環境の変化に適応し環境を変革して、今日まで生き延び
たのでしょう。
現代は、生産され交換される情報の量質ともに飛躍的に増大して、誰しも情報を所有、
コピーすることができ、消費することが出来るようになった時代です。それだけに、
一層知能の発達が必要ですし、そのための時間が長くかかるようになりました。

We often hear about a word “neoteny”. A creature species which becomes adult
and procreative with keeping itself form and quality like unborn child or
baby is sometimes called neoteny. Ooper-looper is thought to be a neteny of
Mexican salamander. Homo sapiens also, in opinion of L. Borg and KINJI
IMANISHI, is argued to be a neoteny of the primates. Homo sapiens keeps such
a childish nature as chimpanzee’s baby. Neoteny is to keep premature though
physically adult and childish nature till late during comparatively long
infanthood. The childish nature is defined here not merely as to its form and
exercising abilities but also as to the long growing term of mentality,
sustainable learning desire and increasing curiosity.
According to Darwinism, homo sapiens is explained to be what has been produced
under the strategy of neoteny employed to adapt themselves to the rigid and
complex environments receiving selection pressure from the same genus. This
explanation seems teleological. I think a species by chance was created. Such
a species can keep surviving as the result of growing intellectual faculties,
intentionally adapting themselves changes of environments and changing them
in turn.
Nowadays, the volume and qualities of informations produced and exchanged have
rapidly jumped up its trends and everybody is able easily to own, copy and
consume them. Therefore, it becomes increasingly necessary to develop their
intelligence it comes to take longer to master it.
