miso-は「…嫌い」の意の造語要素。　母音の前では通例 mis- 。
ギリシャ語で嫌い（hatred）を意味するmisosが由来。

The Root MIS/MISO means WRONG, BAD, HATE. We all make MIStakes and MIS is the key that says it's wrong.

Mischief is trouble. The mischievous fellow is a troublemaker, usually a poor student. Smart ones have not time for mischief. Perhaps the mischievous fellow would like to be the leader, the cheif. But he cannot be the chief since he does not achieve good work. He wants attention, so he goes in for mischievous acts, achievement of the wrong kind.

mistakeなどのmisと、misanthropeのmisは、ちょっと意味が違う気もしますが、こんな風にまとめても、覚えやすいですね。



misogamyの-gamyも造語要素で以下の意味。
1 「結婚 (marrying)」.
･bigamy 重婚.　polygamy, monogamy
2 【生物】 「両性結合 (sexual union)」.
･allogamy 他花[異花]授粉.
3 【生物】 「受精･受粉の様式」.
･cleistogamy 閉花受粉.

ギリシャ語でgamosがmarryingを意味するそうです。


miso-の反対の意味の「…を愛する」という意味をもつのが、philo-(母音の前ではoが落ちて、phil-）で、philosophy、 philanthropy、philharmonic。
Philadelphiaもギリシャ語で「兄弟愛」（←philos（loving）＋adelphos（brother））でした。

これが、右側要素になると、-phile。
ぶどう酒 (wine)」の意の左側要素oeno-（母音の前では通例 oen- ）と結びつくと、ワイン愛好家
ぶどう酒醸造学,ぶどう酒研究.は、oenologyだそう。へー。
