The next witness in former President Donald Trump's criminal prosecution is Hope Hicks, a communications director and adviser in the White House during his administration.

Numerous witnesses who have testified thus far have mentioned Hicks by name. Prosecutors are likely to interrogate her over her knowledge of the agreement struck by Trump and the National Enquirer tabloid's leadership to "capture and kill" stories that would damage his candidacy for president in 2016.

Hicks is the eighth person to testify against the former president in Manhattan. According to 34 felony counts against him, Trump fabricated business documents in New York to hide materially false information that could have influenced the 2016 presidential election. Because the trial is interfering with Trump's election, he says it is "election interference."
