The movie is not actually terrible in some places. It's a fantasy adventure action movie with albeit featureless characters and unmotivated actions though, but not much in the way of a Star Wars movie. It's just incredibly generic and bland, you could probably have put the same story into the Xena franchise and made a more interesting movie from that, as it's gotten less of a space fantasy movie and more of a high fantasy narrative.

The narrative connections between TRoS and the other two sequels are. pretty much nonexistent except from an interpretational point of view. You could very well have forgone with the other two movies - or with this one, as it's the least structured or well told of them all.

Some MacGuffins could be taken directly from a badly written text adventure.

The actorial chemistry between Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver works very well though, while the other characters don't really show any life of their own, being the punchline of one or two or nostalgia jokes aside.

The connection to the franchise as a whole is. to say it mildly. stupid and infantile. The premise, which ties it into the saga, is off from the get-go, starting with the rolling title. After that, one logical and dramaturgical inconsistency ties itself to the last. With these inconsistencies comes a strong notion of weightlessness to every action or character in the movie. What was a dire danger or loss in one moment, was completely restored or resolved in the next.

So all in all: No recommendation from me - and a sense of bewilderment about the rating of 6.8 on here.

I grew up watching the films in chronological order and loved the universe in general including the KOTR games and comics.

So when I watched The Last Jedi I was devastated by the bad direction when it came to Rey and the force and I believed there was no fixing the damage done in that film. However I was proved wrong!

This film answers all the questions of the whole franchise. It finally humanises the previously unreal strength of Rey and answers the question as to why she is so strong. Closes the story of Finn, Poe, Rey, Kylo and gives so many dramatic moments. Develops Rey and Kylo's relationship beautifully. Does not put any plot points to waste. Fixes the Snoke and Skywalker plot problems of the last film in a genius manner. This film manages to fit in everything the other films failed to do.

A truly spectacular end to a saga. I understand the frustrations many older fans had with the film however for the position the team were in they managed to pull an impossible fix to the franchise since Disneys take over of Lucasfilms.

I understand there were mistakes made in the previous Films and I admit the trilogy was not perfect and that brings many valid reasons that would challenge my rating but personally the directing of this film was the best it could be with the narrative resources it had from the franchise hence why I give this Film as a finishing piece itself a 10/10. This film saved the trilogy. If you have not watched this film you would find this film narratively satisfying as a feel good action adventure family friendly franchise.
