When I first read the concept for The Willoughbys, I thought it sounded a lot like The Addams Family. The film did come across like that for the first few minutes, but there are actually quite a few differences.

In all honesty, I thought the film would be extremely bad or mediocre at best, but it's not. It's slightly above average, and I can see why children would be completely enamoured with the film.

The main problem with The Willoughbys is the overall narrative. It wasn't bad by any means, but it never engaged me to the level that I would have liked. That's not to say that I was bored throughout, but the story wasn't as strong as I would have liked. There were also some major pacing issues, which is strange for a film that clocks in at around ninety minutes.

Thankfully, I was a big fan of the animation-style and the voice acting. The colour pallet was very appealing, and that was enough to keep my attention. There were also a lot of jokes which worked for me, and there are certainly worse scripts out there for animated films.

Overall, The Willoughbys is a fine film that I think children will like and the parents won't tear their eyes out at, but it didn't do anything particularly great and I doubt I'll remember it for longer than a few weeks.

The first trailer was really promising until it became a “saving the world” stuff. Could have been a nice movie. maybe will be.
I had higher expectations from the movie but I'll say it's average and can be watched one time, if you are a fan of animated movies. The story starts interesting but loses the plot in between, it is dragged somewhere and could have been funnier.
She has a great speaking voice.

When she announced she was doing this I immediately thought about that same Fallon interview.
I'm pretty glad that thanks to streaming services like Netflix, animation is becoming more inventive and experimental again. The animation is beautiful and detailed without sacrificing any personality and stylization. Very cute.

Also refreshing is the willingness to be more edgy in the story itself. Four children conspire to get rid of their terrible parents, yet the whole film remains charming and cute and entirely enjoyable to watch. I loved everything about it.

The succession of events were a little drawn out, I think because of the poor transitions and the long cartoon sequences in certain scenes.
