Words cannot even describe this movie. You have to just see it. The music, the dialogue, the acting, the sounds. it's unbelievable. I've never seen anything like it. The Safdie Brothers have made it clear that they are making films that THEY want to make. You will not find some formulaic storytelling model in Uncut Gems.

The brothers' direction is on another level in this film. I'm sure even veteran directors will be blown away by it. Sandler was absolutely gripping and believable as a compulsive gambler with no redeeming qualities. Julia Fox was also amazing as Sandler's employee and mistress. I wish Idina Menzel had a larger role but she was also great in her limited amount of scenes. Some of the actors are first-time actors and/or jewelers in real life, which is astounding considering how good they were. Kevin Garnett also delivers a great performance. Although he is supposed to be playing a version of "himself" he came across as a villain which suited the film well.

The ending goes down as some of the best cinema I've ever seen (this is not hyperbole. It is shocking but completely fitting while at the same time hysterical. In fact, the entire film managed to balance an insane amount of comedy, thrills, and drama.

But this review cannot be finished without mentioning the composer Daniel Lopatin AKA Oneohtrix Point Never. His score reminds me of what Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross did in THE SOCIAL NETWORK. It just adds a whole other layer of complexity and depth to the film.

10+ stars. Should get nominated for an Oscar or two. In a different era, this film would get nominated for many Oscars. But I think it'll definitely get nominated for best original screenplay and best original score.

Also Ronald Bronstein (co-writer and editor) deserves credit for this masterpiece as well. He doesn't get as much attention as The Safdies but I think he'll have a long, prosperous career.

This movie is an absolute masterpiece! I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I saw it for the first time a few days ago, it completely changed my opinion of Robert Pattinson.
This Her spinoff does look hilarious.

Damn, he's surprised to hear you say this. I thought the Safdie brothers knocked it out of the park again. Sandler was too good in this IMO.

I felt as though I was about to have a stroke when watching this.
It did exactly what it set out to do, which is what most people who watch it are looking for, and therefore it's bad.
Terrible 'film. After the first hour I was disappointed yet I hoped the last stretch of the movie would be better. It was all so abrupt and unclear of what is happening. Terrible film.

Congratulations on Chris Stuckmann now having more subs than Jeremy Jahns. And yeah, yeah, I know it's not a competition, but I remember a time when Chris was still starting out as a reviewer while Jeremy was already huge and now look how things have changed. Mad respect, Chris. I definitely prefer your style of review, it's more thoughtful and introspective. Again, I know it's not a competition, but Chris is the better reviewer in my humble opinion.
