I found the whole one shot aspect distracting honestly. Because I would think about how they did a certain shot or cut so I wasn't really immersed.

This shot- among so many- really shines in my head as spectacular. And then for Mendes to undermine it all by not giving Scofield a big rewarding moment, but simply a good job, now move on. GENIUS.
This is definitive the movie of the year, it was so amazing. It is so stunning and intense, I can't even stop thinking about how great of a movie it was. The acting, cinematography, and everything about it was done so well.

The sets, scenery, and cinematography are all A. I wasn't as big a fan of the direction as some.
The first ten minutes were good. After that, I kept asking myself "did Disney make a war film.
1917 deserves a standing ovation for the technical aspects, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention the fact that this movie also wouldn't have been as good as it is without the careful direction by Sam Mendes. Between his work on American Beauty or Skyfall, it should come as no surprise that he would make a great film, but the crew around him took it to another level in my opinion. I was sucked in from start to finish and the two-hour run time flew by. I can't recommend this film enough. Easily one of my favourite films of 2019.
The crying officer made the scene much more intense and sad. No one was prepared to die. I was in awe the whole movie, but that scene felt like Tom Hanks destroying the tank in Saving Private Ryan or Tom Hardy taking down the german plane in Dunkirk. An heroic and epic moment.

This ending was perfect because I didnt feel worried that he would make it through the war because I felt that this was the end of his journey.
1:46 sounds something out of Indiana Jones.

Ive since this five times its a Masterpiece and the music is phenomenal ❤️❤️❤️❤️ George McKay is AMAZING.
Besides the great direction, landscape and cast i think that the plot is quite boring actually.
The main problem is the "heat.
When the action started after couple of seconds it stopped to show something irrelevant and this kinda of thing happened multiple times. As a result it was boring and distracting.
The moral of this story: War is useless, go relax under a tree instead.
Ive seen better CGI in 10 year old video games.

Watched the movie today. The screenplay is somehow simple: there are just two main questions whether the message will be delivered in time and action will be cancelled (vaguely said in order not to spoil anything) and whether the brother will be met. So, no other twists for me there. But an incredible cameraman work keeps interest of a viewer till the end. The gluing together of shots is so smooth that there persists an illusion that the movie is made in one shot. Also, the music - it sound with the precise scene mood at the right time which amplifies watching experience. Neverrminding the screenplay and my rating of 6 stars, it certainly worth watching at least one time.

The world still suffers from the scars WW1 left it with. Even to this day you can feel the aftermath of that war. It truly changed the course of human history. This movie truly touched it to its spirit. I loved this movie. Everything about it. Absolutely. I cried like a baby at this ending.
