Sam Hagrave's Extraction movie features Chris Hemsworth's mercenary Tyler Rake in a rescue mission. Here's where you know the rest of the cast.
Chris Hemsworth leads Netflix's Extraction cast, but he's certainly not the only big-name actor involved. Extraction marks the directorial debut of Sam Hagrave, and it's produced by Joe and Anthony Russo's production company AGBO. It's also based on the Ciudad comic by Ande Parks, Fernando Leon Gonzalez, Eric Skillman, and the Russos.
Extraction centers on a black-market mercenary, Tyler Rake, who is hired by a imprisoned global crime lord to rescue his kidnapped son. With nothing left to lose, he takes on the job and is quickly plunged into the messy underworld of weapons dealers and drug traffickers. Production for Extraction began in 2018, with filming taking place in several locations, like Ahmedabad and Mumbai, India; Ban Pong, Thailand; and plate shots in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Originally titled Dhaka, the movie's name was later changed to Out of the Fire until it was given its final title - Extraction - just two months before release. Hemsworth leads a small cast of characters in Extraction, and here's everyone else in the movie including who they play and where you might have seen them before.
Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake
Chris Hemsworth spearheads Extraction as the black-market mercenary Tyler Rake. He's commissioned for a rescue mission by a notorious war lord. Motivated by his belief that he's nothing left to lose, he takes on the job. The Australian actor is best known for his stint as Thor, the God of Thunder, in the MCU. He also appeared in a string of films in varying genres outside of the superhero franchise including Snow White and the Huntsman, Blackhat, Ghostbusters, Bad Times at the El Royale, and Men in Black: International.
Rudhraksh Jaiswal as Ovi Mahajan
Young actor Rudrash Jaiswal plays the kidnapped son of an international crime lord behind bars in Extraction. Rake is hired to rescue him from his abductors. The pair develops some weird bond as they attempt to safely elude the perpetrators chasing them. Fairly new to the world of movies, Jaiswal kickstarted his acting career in 2013 via playing young Sahadeva in the Indian Hindi-language TV show, Mahabharta. He debuted on the big screen through Noor, followed by his appearance in The Tenant.
Extraction Supporting Cast
Golshifteh Farahani as Nik Khan: Playing Rake's handler, Nik's primary role in Extraction is to communicate with him as he navigates his way to successfully accomplish his given mission. The Iranian actress and singer appeared in the drama, About Elly which won Best Picture winner at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival. Since then, she starred in numerous movies including Exodus: Gods and Kings, Paterson, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Pankaj Tripathi as Ovi Mahajan Sr. : Tripathi plays Ova's father who hires Rake to rescue his son from his kidnappers. The actor debuted in 2004 and has since then appeared in 40 films like Gangs of Wasseypur which catapulted him into mainstream popularity, Furkey, Masaan, Newton, Furkey Retuns and Stree. He was also in TV shows such as Powder and Sarojini-Ek Nayi Pehal.
Randeep Hooda as Saju: One of Ovi Sr. 's people, Saju is forced to oversee Rake's mission to save Ovi after the mob boss threatens to have his family killed if anything happens to his son. Hooda is best known for his break out role in 2010's Once Upon a Time in Mumbai; his career steadily rose with Hindi films such as Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster, Jannat 2, Jism 2, Highway, Rang Rasiya and Sarbjit.
David Harbour as Gaspar: Harbour plays Rake fellow mercenary, Gaspar, in Extraction. The actor is famously known as Hopper in Netflix's Stranger Things. He also appeared in films such as Quantum of Solace, The Green Hornet, Black Mass, Suicide Squad, and The Equalizer in supporting roles. Last year, he starred in the reboot of Hellboy as the headlining character.

Star Wars: R2-D2 Makes Anakin's Dark Side Turn More Tragic
About The Author Accidental geek who is perpetually curious, Ana rekindled her love for writing several years back and married it with everything pop culture. The result is a passionate young writer who could ramble (and of course, pen) about films and series multiple hours a day. She has a soft spot for The Lion King, old songs, and home design; is currently obsessed with old sitcoms (The Golden Girls! ); and won't dare watch any horror films although she’s (ironically) dying to see one. Though a bit late to the party and was an actual Force non-believer, she now finds the Star Wars franchise quite fascinating (fun fact: it was a crazy Jar Jar Binks/Sith theory that drew her in).

Extraction is a totally violent action movie. Start to end depends on our view of I totally loved it because of Chris Hemsworth screenplay of Russo brothers. br>
Action and shooting movie lovers can watch this flick. without any doubt. br>
Those who are saying that is unrealistic. May be they didn't have a Netflix

10 Stars Worth it. For a action class. .
When a movie mercenary at the end of his rope is offered One Last Job, it’s never something relatively simple like making a ransom drop or leading the security detail for some crime lord fleeing the country.
Oh no. It’s always the kind of task that has his colleagues saying stuff like, “You know this is nearly impossible logistically and you’re walking to a death trap, right? This is a suicide mission, man! ”
So it goes for Chris Hemsworth’s fantastically named Tyler Rake in “Extraction, ” a sprawling, dust-covered, blood-spattered thriller that’s reminiscent of a “Bourne” movie without all the sophisticated trappings. This movie is all about hand-to-hand combat and extended set pieces, and first-time director Sam Hargrave does an admirable job of plunging us into the action in rarely seen filming locations such as Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Ban Pong and Dhaka. The result is a thoroughly satisfying thriller with some creative dramatic touches and a perfect ending, and I’ll say no more about that ending so as to not even hint at spoiling it.
“Extraction” starts with the classic end-at-the-beginning sequence, in which we see Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake covered with blood, stumbling, seemingly down for the count. At this point we have no idea who this man is and how he got here, so … cue the title card saying: “MUMBAI, INDIA, 2 DAYS AGO. ”
Rukhraksh Jaiswal is Ovi, the teenage son of an imprisoned drug lord and Randeep Hooda is Saju, the consigliere and former special ops soldier assigned to keep watch over Ovi. But one night, Ovi sneaks out to a club to meet his friends, and before the night is over, Ovi’s best friend has been assassinated and Ovi has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom by his father’s rival, the biggest crime lord in Bangladesh.
Cut to Western Australia, where a booze-soaked Tyler Rake has dropped out of life and is living with his pet chicken in a ramshackle hideaway. Enter the beautiful and mysterious Nik (Golshifteh Farahani), who is dressed like she’s on the Riviera and clearly has a past with Tyler, and offers him that aforementioned suicide-mission opportunity: Go to Bangladesh, take out the dozen or so heavily armed henchmen guarding Ovi, and pull off the extraction, i. e., get the kid back home.
Rukhraksh Jaiswal (left) plays Ovi, the teen on the run from kidnappers with the mercenary Tyler (Chris Hemsworth) in “Extraction. ”
Netflix
What follows is a steady stream of thrilling action sequences, including one extended piece where the camera trails Tyler and Ovi as they weave their way through an apartment complex and Tyler takes out one bad dude after another. Chris Hemsworth still has that imposing Thor physique, but Tyler bleeds and his bones break and he’s busted inside and out after numerous fights. He’s an anti-hero, not a superhero. Hemsworth also has some nice dramatic moments when he’s hiding out with Ovi and begins to open up a little, and when he reconnects with an old mercenary pal, played to cameo perfection by David Harbour.
Even though “Extraction” is far different in tone from the Marvel movies, “Avengers” alums drive this film, from Hemsworth to screenwriter Joe Russo to director Hargrave, a former stunt coordinator and double for Chris “Captain America” Evans and second-unit director on “Infinity War. ” This time around, the trio has teamed up for a visually impressive, action-packed, heavily armed thriller.
It’s a shame this real crowd-pleaser won’t be playing to crowds, but it still works as a Friday night, pop-the-popcorn, living room entertainment.

WTOP's Jason Fraley reviews 'Extraction'
It’s no accident that beloved superhero alums keep landing roles in the latest batch of streaming content, from Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) in the new HBO film “Bad Education” to Chris Evans (Captain America) in the new Apple TV+ miniseries “Defending Jacob. ”
However, Chris Hemsworth (Thor) may have the biggest bragging rights thanks to his new action flick “Extraction, ” which just became the most watched Netflix original film with 90 million viewers over four weeks, surpassing the 73 million of “Murder Mystery” (2019).
Unlike the 2015 Bruce Willis flick of the same name, this “Extraction” benefits from a quarantined audience and a built-in “Avengers” fanbase loyal to the Russo Brothers, who produce. On its own merits, “Extraction” is an above-average action flick with kickass stunts, but a story that feels cliche in the wake of “Man on Fire” (2004) and “Taken” (2008).
Based on Ande Parks’ graphic novel “Ciudad, ” the film follows Australian mercenary Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), who is recruited to rescue Ovi Mahajan Jr. (Rudhraksh Jaiswal), the kidnapped son of Indian drug lord Ovi Mahajan Sr. (Pankaj Tripathi). He’s now being held for ransom by brutal kingpin Amir Asif (Priyanshu Painyuli) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The God of Thunder keeps his golden locks trimmed like “Thor: Ragnarok” (2017), but we miss the charming banter he brought to Fat Thor in “Endgame” (2019). This time, he’s the strong but silent type, believably laying waste to henchmen like Matt Damon or Keanu Reeves, even if the name Tyler Rake isn’t as memorable as Jason Bourne or John Wick.
Screenwriter Joe Russo openly mocks his protagonist’s name. “You don’t look like a Tyler. You look like a Brad, ” the kid says, before setting sights on his surname: “That’s a strange last name. Isn’t that like a gardening tool? ” You should see him use a hammer, kid.
Dialogue aside, we don’t really get to know Rake as a person. Russo attempts to give reasons for his apathy by flashing to blurry images of a little boy. Are these childhood memories or memories of a family member? The answer is ultimately revealed, but we wish the imagery was explored more like Russell Crowe in “Gladiator” (2000).
Structurally, the script is a tad back heavy, allowing Rake to save the boy too early, leaving the majority devoted to their escape. It would have been better for Rake to spend the first half finding the boy and the second half fleeing. As written, Act Two becomes repetitive. Like the kid says, “You drown not by falling into the river but by staying submerged in it. ”
On a sociological level, critics may ding it for “white savior” tropes as Ovi Jr. laments, “I’m just a package to be delivered. A brown package. ” Other viewers won’t mind, swept away by the Southeast Asian settings filmed in the Indian cities of Ahmedabad and Mumbai before moving to Thailand in Ban Pong, Ratchaburi, then finally Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The gritty locations and desperate conditions recall the plight of the kids in “Slumdog Millionaire” (2008), exploited by a sinister villain tossing kids off a roof. It’s an attempt to get them to snitch while recruiting a legion of child soldiers. Some have no business near a trigger, clicking with misfires, while others deliver fatal shots like “City of God” (2002).
Filmmaker Sam Hargrave (Captain America’s stunt double) is the latest stunt coordinator to make his directorial debut. His best sequence is a 12-minute single-take car chase where the camera tracks beside the getaway vehicle, moves into the back seat to ride along, pushes out the rear window to follow other cars, then moves back inside for a crash.
At times, the impressive unbroken shots will make you gasp, “How did they do that?!? ” Most likely, it’s achieved with well-timed CGI “stitches. ” However, as their remote navigator Nik Khan (Golshifteh Farahani) shouts, “Turn back, turn back, turn back, ” it feels like a video game narrator instructing the hero to turn around after driving down a dead end.
It all builds to a sacrificial finale that rips off “Man on Fire” with its bridge heroics and “The Bourne Identity” with an underwater plunge, only without the Moby soundtrack. Like Denzel’s “Creasy Bear” protection of Dakota Fanning, we get a similar scene of the kid in a swimming pool, only this time with an ambiguous final shot that leaves it open for more.
This week, Netflix announced tentative plans to bring back Hemsworth, Russo and Hargrave for an upcoming sequel. Their hope is to launch a high-octane franchise that will turn Tyler Rake into a recurring action star for the new millennium. If the sequel can land another 90 million viewers after four weeks, it will have been a shrewd investment.
Still, I’m skeptical of the way Netflix counts its “viewers. ” It used to require folks to watch 70 percent of a movie for it to count as an official view. Now, you only have to watch two minutes. That’s about as brief as someone flipping through cable channels and stopping between commercials. The intentional result is that newer films have a huge advantage.
As a result, you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be more “records” to break, more victims to extract and more excuses for Tyler Rake to keep raking in the dough.
